Motorola MILESTONE is Motorola's first Android-based smartphone, a premium device notable for both hardware and software capabilities.

The device is made in the form factor of the side slider. It differs by a strict, “official” appearance, along with plastic, metal is used in the construction of the case. The build quality is at a high level, without gaps, backlashes and squeaks. Due to the materials used, the phone has a rather impressive weight and subjectively it may seem uncomfortable to hold with one hand for a long time, and due to its angularity it is not very convenient to carry in a shirt or trousers pocket. This is partly offset by the thickness of the device — very small, as for a side slider.

The main part of the front panel is occupied by a touch screen. Under the screen there are four control buttons "Back", "Menu", "Home" and "Search" — they are touch-sensitive, which is not very convenient, accidental pressing is possible. There are no hardware keys for accepting and rejecting a call. Additional controls include a camera key and volume rocker on the right side of the smartphone, as well as a multipurpose button (screen lock/off and power management) on the top. There, on the top end, there is a standard 3.5 mm jack. On the left panel there is a microUSB connector, it is not covered by any plug, and next to it is a charging indicator in the form of an LED.

The hardware keyboard opens rather tightly, auto-finishing, if any, is almost imperceptible. The keyboard is convenient and easy to learn, but far from perfect in terms of localization: the Russian layout contains 4 keys, on which 2 letters are fixed at once, and when using them, difficulties may arise. There is a separate button for switching layouts.

The Milestone screen is one of the main "highlights" of the device — with an impressive size of 3.7'' it has a resolution of 480x854, which is fully supported by the operating system and provides high image quality. The display is characterized by large viewing angles, fades a little in the sun, but remains perfectly readable. The display sensor is capacitive, multi-touch is supported. Provides automatic rotation of the display due to the built-in accelerometer.

The hardware part of the phone is based on the ARM Cortex A8 processor with a clock frequency of 550 MHz, the amount of RAM is 256 MB. In addition, there is a graphics accelerator. In general, the phone is characterized by fast and stable operation, including with several open applications.

Milestone runs on Android OS version 2.0 (depending on the specific batch — 2.1). This is a "clean" OS, the creators decided to abandon the MOTOBLUR shell. One of the main features of the new shell is HTML5 support, which allows you to create up to 10 tabs while browsing the web. Also new browser options include displaying thumbnails of web pages before loading and faster performance. The “social” features are well presented, several social networks are supported, and contacts can even be synchronized with Facebook (as well as with Gmail). What is especially valuable for business people: the phone works with Microsoft Exchange, the "Corporate Calendar" and "Corporate Catalog" functions are provided, there is a Quick Office application for working with Microsoft Office documents. It is also worth noting separately the Car Home mode — an interface for working with the device while driving a car, when only the most important functions are displayed on the screen in the form of large icons. And the included Motorola Phone Portal tool will allow you to synchronize your phone with the user's personal page on the Motorola website and store multimedia, contacts and more on the Web.

The multimedia component is quite standard, the only feature is the absence of an FM tuner.

Smartphone camera resolution of 5 megapixels equipped with dual LED flash and autofocus. The latter, however, works quite slowly, and the flash is effective at a distance of less than 2 m. Video recording is provided at a resolution of up to 720x480, the quality of filming is average. There is a front camera for video calls.

GPS navigation capabilities are implemented through pre-installed Google Maps (there is also a trial version of the MotoNav programme).

The standard Milestone battery has a capacity of 1420 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, is enough for 6.3 hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby time. In fact, with an average intensity of use, the battery lasts for a day and a half — a common occurrence for modern smartphones. The battery is charged via the microUSB port.
