Model overview based on user reviews
The Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC FA lens is highly praised for its excellent price/quality ratio and is considered a must-have for Pentax users. It offers stunning bokeh and is razor sharp from aperture F4-5.6, making it ideal for portrait photography. Users appreciate its bright aperture and fast autofocus, even in low light conditions. The lens is lightweight with a metal construction, though some note it can be noisy and the focus ring is narrow. It lacks a lens hood, which is recommended to avoid flares. Despite minor drawbacks, the lens is valued for its high-quality images and has become a favorite among photographers.

A magnificent lens for its money. It becomes very sharp starting from aperture 2.2, and at 6.3 it’s razor sharp. At 1.4, it’s perfect for shooting portraits, resulting in "optical retouching" :D This lens is a must-have for every self-respecting Pentax user. Of course, there’s the 55*, but that’s a completely different story, that's a completely different price range... :) Starting from 2.2 it is quite sharp. Very well made. Stunning bokeh. Nice focusing ring. Filter diameter 49 mm (you can easily buy filters and they will not be very expensive) Noisy. I had to manually adjust (there was a small back focus) No hood included ![]() |
The K-5 turned out to be a full automatic, no need to adjust anything. We set the lens to mode A and everything else is adjusted on the camera. Autofocus, aperture, everything is controlled on the camera! How to understand what a professional DSLR can do without spending 1000 u.e. on a lens = buy for 350 FA-50. I believe that this lens should be purchased immediately after buying a DSLR, and not even use the KIT. The KIT lacks sharpness, beautiful bokeh, and light sensitivity. Aperture, bokeh, rendering. Noisy, the rubberized focusing ring moves very hard. ![]() |
I bought a used one in Bangkok. In our currency - 1750 UAH. Now I've looked at our prices and I'm even more satisfied with the purchase :) Sharp at 1.4, very sharp when slightly closed... fast autofocus, works great even at dusk. Lightweight, with very pleasant bokeh. Bought recently. K-m body. The diaphragm is adjusted on the lens and operates only in M mode. I haven't figured out how else yet. For now, it's all the time in A mode, at F1.4. ![]() |
