Model overview based on user reviews
The Pentax 50mm f/1.8 SMC DA lens is highly regarded for its contrast, sharpness, and decent rendering, making it a standout choice among its competitors. Users appreciate its multi-layered coating that effectively handles backlighting, with no noticeable flare issues reported. While it lacks a lens hood, many users opt to purchase a separate one. The lens is designed for cropped sensors, which can limit coverage area, but this is typical for a portrait lens. Its price-quality ratio is praised, and it is noted for being lightweight with good bokeh. Some users mention occasional focus misses, but overall, it is considered a highly efficient and cost-effective option, especially compared to manual alternatives.

Contrast, sharpness, decent rendering! A cut above its competitors in other systems, it has multi-layered coating. Handles backlighting well. So far, I haven't managed to catch any "flare" in my practice. 2) No hood. Bought and installed a threaded aluminum one. ![]() |
Highly recommend! Tried 50 1/4 manual, got tired of getting it in focus, even though it has a focus sensor. This one is much more efficient and costs much less than its "brother" 1/4. Installed a rubber lens hood because there is no lens hood included. Price-quality, lightweight, bokeh is quite good Misses focus use Pentax 50mm f/1.8 SMC DA more than year |
