Compact stabilized zoom lens designed for cropped mirrorless Canon EOS R cameras (with APS-C format image sensor). In full-frame equivalent terms, the model covers a focal length range of approximately 88 to 336 mm. This effectively makes it a versatile telephoto lens. The Canon 55-210mm f/5.0-7.1 RF-S IS STM has a modest aperture range—starting at f/5.0 at the minimum zoom distance and going up to f/7.1 at maximum magnification.

The limited aperture is compensated by the optical image stabilization system, which allows for compensation of up to 4.5 stops of shutter speed or exposure. Combined with the in-camera stabilization, it can reach up to 7 stops. Structurally, the lens is comprised of an optical scheme with 11 elements in 7 groups and features a 7-blade diaphragm. The inside utilizes Super Spectra Coating for improved light transmission. Focusing is handled by a smooth and quiet STM motor, and it also includes a programmable control ring. Filters with a diameter of 55 mm can be attached to the lens's front rim. The telephoto zoom weighs only 270 g.
