With a capacity of up to 100 liters, the backpack of the Czech brand Pinguin is one of the solutions that are suitable for difficult and long hiking trips. The model weighs 2.6 kg, comes with a rain cover and is compatible with drinking systems (it has a pocket and an outlet for a hydration tube). The provided top flap and hip belt are detachable and can be combined into a separate fanny pack.
The Pinguin Explorer 100 backpack is equipped with two compartments that can be combined into one more spacious one. Access inside is implemented from four places, since in addition to the main entrance there are zippers for side (on both sides) and bottom opening. The storage system with multiple pockets is complemented by a front elastic cord and loops to secure various equipment. The rigid ventilated back and system of couplers is responsible for convenience in operation. Both of these design elements are height adjustable for the height of a particular user.

Lighter and more modern
Revamped for 2020, Pinguin's hiking backpack received only minor changes from its successful predecessor. Here the design has been updated, which has become more modern. And instead of polyester, a durable nylon fabric is used. It is characterized by high mechanical strength and lightness. So, Pinguin Explorer 100 weighs 2.1 kg (versus 2.6 kg for the 2013 version).
As before, three colour modifications are offered: khaki, black and blue. Plus, less capacious variations are available, starting from the Explorer 60.
For difficult hikes
The backpack uses a proprietary ABS suspension system. Rigid ventilated backrest is height adjustable to balance loads. Anatomical shoulder straps are complemented by a chest strap and a detachable waist belt.
The main 100-litre compartment can be divided into 2 compartments using a divider at the bottom of the case. And access inside is provided literally from four sides: top, bottom and sides (there is an entrance both on the left and on the right). Additional pockets include a pair of zippered side pockets, two open bottle pockets and one outside the top flap.
More Flexibility
The Pinguin Explorer 100 comes with a rain cover designed to protect the contents from getting wet during precipitation. In the upper part of the case there is a compartment for a hydrator and an opening for the outlet of the pipes of the drinking system. A special mention deserves a detachable top flap that turns into a shoulder bag, convenient for "radials" — short light walks followed by a return to the camp.
A rich system of ties and loops for equipment is complemented by a detachable elastic cord. With their help, it will be possible to place a variety of things outside, including a tent, rug, outerwear, etc.
Of the minuses, a number of users note a rough waist belt that can rub the skin. The rest of the Pinguin Explorer 100 is a quality choice for the money and a good alternative to products from other famous brands.
