The heart of almost all digital watches is a quartz movement. For accurate timing, such models use an electronic generator that needs constant power supply. From this feature emerges the first criterion for choosing a desktop clock:

Food

The watch can be powered by both conventional batteries and 230 V mains. The first method has a positive effect on the mobility of the watch and deprives them of a rigid binding to the outlet. That's just on the shoulders of the owner of an electronic chronometer, worries about the periodic replacement of batteries fall.

From the outlet, the watch can work indefinitely for a long time. But you will have to think over the location of the watch and the organization of the supply of the power cord to them.

In some cases, the wire may be inappropriate and spoil the interior with its presence. In addition, with a sudden power outage, the time on the clock will inevitably get lost, along with which the risk of oversleeping the morning alarm increases. In order to avoid such a situation, many mains-powered watches provide both power options.

Dial

An important parameter when choosing a desktop chronograph is the watch face. In particular, it is necessary to start from the shape, size and clarity of the displayed numbers when searching for watches for the elderly and people with poor eyesight. Such categories are best suited for electronic desktop models with a large and bright dial.

If the dial is illuminated, you can see the time on the watch screen even at night. Moreover, in a number of models, the dial is illuminated on a permanent basis, whereas in most electronic desktop clocks, the backlight is triggered by pressing the key responsible for this.

Finally, the watch case itself can shine with light — its backlight function allows you to use a desktop chronograph as a night light. An example of such a model is Spektr-Kvarc 0923 .

Some models of desktop clocks can replace a night light.

Displayed information

As usual, the main task of a desktop-type electronic clock is to display the current time. But many models, in addition to it, have learned to display the date, a calendar that provides the ability to schedule the alarm time for a pre-selected day, and temperature. The last parameter is determined both indoors and externally (when the watch is equipped with a special remote temperature sensor).

In a desktop clock with a built-in projector, the current time is also displayed by projecting an image onto the wall or ceiling. In many situations, this can be very useful. For example, you can point the projector at the ceiling and see the current time without getting out of bed and without bringing the dial to your eyes.

Alarm

The alarm clock function is found on board the vast majority of electronic desktop clocks. Moreover, it can be implemented in a variety of ways — from giving a classic sound signal at a certain time to the function of delaying the alarm, i.e. re-triggering the signal after a certain time interval.

The most advanced models of watches with a built-in AM/FM tuner, instead of giving the usual sound notification, are able to start broadcasting their favorite radio station.

And in order not to oversleep for sure, you can turn your eyes to electronic chronographs with unusual ways to turn off the alarm clock. For example, some watches require certain actions on the part of their owner — shooting at a target with an infrared pistol, collecting puzzles or catching a propeller flying into the air simultaneously with the alarm signal.

Sometimes you want to get rid of an annoying alarm clock in the early morning in the most radical ways.

Design and materials

A desktop clock serves not only to display time and identical readings on its screen. In addition, they are an element of the interior, so the decorative component often has a decisive influence when choosing a watch of this type. After all, one will like a strict business style (Casio DQ-750 ), and others are closer in spirit to unusual watches, for example, in the form of a cannon (TFA Time Ball from 5 221 ₴).

Finally, an important point that deserves attention is the material of the case and the dial of the watch. There are a great many models on the market in wooden, plastic, metal and even stone "uniforms". In turn, the watch screen can be covered with both plastic and high-strength glass.

The watch was skillfully disguised as a wooden block.

Of course, representatives of the desktop type will not be compared with the squad of arrow clocks in terms of the variety of spectacular and unusual ways of execution, but after all, they have other tasks set before them. Therefore, for the most part, the style of electronic chronographs is made to match the modern design.
