Installation methods for wall-mounted toilet bowls
We independently test the products and technologies that we recommend.

There are rumors among the townsfolk about the unreliability of suspended structures due to the lack of a lower fulcrum. However, they are completely devoid of good reasons, which is confirmed by the example of models using a steel frame for installation, which guarantees a margin of safety and is able to withstand a weight of up to 800 kg.
Mounted toilet with installation
The design of solutions of this kind is conditionally divided into 3 main elements:
1. High-strength frame.
2. Hidden drain tank of a narrow form factor.
3. The bowl is the only visible part of the toilet bowl.
At the first stage of the installation of the suspended structure, it is necessary to equip a suitable niche for the frame in the bathroom, which is attached to the floor and the back wall with dowels. A strong base of the wall is a prerequisite, because the main load falls on it. Accordingly, it is unacceptable to mount the structure to walls with weak load-bearing capacity (for example, drywall).

The design of the suspended toilet bowl is such that the visible parts of the product are the bowl and the drain panel, and the remaining elements are hidden from prying eyes in the depths of the false wall. |
Before screwing the installation, it must be placed exactly relative to the vertical and horizontal planes, for which the usual construction level is used. At the same stage, it is possible to adjust the height of the bowl depending on the height of people. The standard value is 40 cm, measured from the floor surface to the upper edge of the bowl.

This is exactly what a steel frame looks like, hidden behind a decorative plasterboard wall. |
The next item of the programme is the supply of water to the drain tank along with the work on connecting the bowl outlet with the sewer outlet. After a trial run of the system for operability and tightness, this issue is returned to at the final stage, when the hinged part of the structure is finally and irrevocably put on long hairpins.
The final installation of the bowl is preceded by a complex of works on covering the working area with sheets of moisture-resistant drywall and subsequent wall cladding behind the toilet bowl to match the general style of the bathroom. The main thing is not to forget to leave a cutout in the upper part of the resulting box under the drain button, because the tank is also completely hidden behind the decorative wall along with the rest of the frame design elements. There can be two main cladding options: for the entire height of the wall or for the purpose of purely covering the installation. In the latter case, an improvised shelf will appear above the bowl of the toilet bowl. The step-by-step procedure for the installation of a hinged structure with an installation is clearly demonstrated in the video: https://youtu.be/BVoz8cDM92U .
A steel frame for installing a suspended toilet is a very expensive solution. Therefore, if you want to save money, you can try to do without it.
Installation on a concrete base
When choosing this method of hanging the toilet bowl, you will have to build a concrete base directly adjacent to the capital wall of the bathroom yourself or with the hands of specialists involved in the work.

Concrete is poured into a pre-prepared formwork. |
First of all, 2 rods with a length of 50 to 80 cm, capable of withstanding a load of 400-500 kg, are fixed in the wall behind the intended installation site of the toilet. A special glue for concrete, called a chemical anchor, helps to fix them in the wall. In the future, the drain coupling is mounted, the formwork is installed and the whole thing is poured with concrete.
The whole process stretches for almost a month, which is directly related to the long solidification time of concrete. But the result is worth the time spent — at the outlet there is a monolithic block with a drain hole, a recess for connecting the hose to the water tank and two pins sticking out of the wall. It remains for a small matter — to hang the toilet, seal the connections and use the product for its intended purpose.

We weigh the pros and cons
The main trump card in the sleeve of the hanging type models is an elegant design, since the bowl does not touch the floor looks very aesthetically pleasing. In addition, to match the interior, you can choose a bowl of almost any shape: from a semicircular to several rectangular variations. The second important plus concerns the ease of care of floor tiles. A toilet hovering above the floor surface is a guarantee of bathroom hygiene.

A bathroom with a suspended toilet at the head is much easier to keep sparkling clean. |
Arguments "against" the installation of suspended solutions are a lot of effort, time and financial injections at the installation stage, as well as difficult access to structural elements in case repairs are necessary. The most controversial point, which is difficult to classify as a plus or minus, is the imaginary saving of free space in the bathroom. On the one hand, it visually gives the impression of the compact size of the suspended toilet bowl, and on the other — that the installation, that the concrete base takes away a significant part of the free space near the back wall.
