Model overview based on user reviews
The Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition G513QY is a powerful gaming laptop featuring a robust processor and graphics card, along with two M.2 slots and RAID support. It offers a Full HD screen with good response and a fast SSD, making it a strong contender in its price range. However, users have reported issues such as random reboots, high CPU temperatures, and a lack of a MUX switch. The laptop also lacks a webcam and has mediocre speakers. Despite these drawbacks, its price and performance make it a competitive choice, though some may find the stability issues concerning. Overall, it offers good battery life and compactness, but potential buyers should be aware of its limitations.
Pros
Cons
I mainly got it as a second laptop to replace the G733QS ROG Strix 17 based on RTX 3080 16Gb. There are almost no complaints in terms of performance, but in terms of stability, it's terrible. My G513QY constantly goes into spontaneous reboots. Just during screen mode switching, the ROG logo appears and you realize it's a reboot... I searched different English-speaking forums and see that a lot of people have this problem, some are helped by reinstalling the operating system, I just updated the BIOS, drivers, and deleted unnecessary programs - it didn't help... The instability of Bluetooth is also annoying, as my headphones are connected this way, and I have to reboot several times a day or turn the adapter on/off. In contrast, ASUS G733QS works mega-stably, there are no issues with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, no freezes. FPS in games is a bit more stable and interface responsiveness in editors is slightly better! Is the extra 100 thousand worth it? - maybe it is. Powerful processor Powerful graphics card Two M.2 slots (one already occupied by a disk) RAID support Two DDR4 SODIMM slots (I have the 16 GB version. Knowing about the timing issues in this model, I checked mine and confirmed that ASUS fixed the problem - the timings are good) A lot of ports at the back, but none on the right! Good touchpad Full HD screen with good response Three to four times a day random reboots without a blue screen. One USB Type-C port, if charging through it, where to connect the monitor?! (I use this port for video output) No card reader at all. The cooling system is rather weak, 90-95 degrees, and it starts to throttle and reduce TGP. The card is completely locked, can't even check TGP with third-party utilities (Furmark shows 170-179W at peaks, but I don't trust this data; Armoury Crate shows 115W at the same time, and I have no way to measure from the socket) Terrible keyboard... where are the mechanical switches?! where are the macros?! Wildly flickering backlight irritating the eyes. Saved $1.5 on the BIOS battery and the same on the MUX Switch controller. No webcam. Mediocre speakers (compared to at least top ultrabooks) ![]() |
I am a happy owner of this marvel of joint engineering by AMD and Asus (2K 165Hz, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD). The laptop meets all your expectations from the very first seconds for its price, which is entirely reasonable for such specifications and one of the lowest in European countries. Price, performance, very fast SSD from Samsung (3150/2150), battery life (8 hours at 40% brightness), speakers, screen, compactness. No MUX switch, high CPU temperatures (90 degrees on average), very well collects your fingerprints, which are difficult to wipe off (will be visible in the photo). ![]() |
