Horrible lens. I was very happy to sell it without a loss, not counting the moral damage from disappointment. An aperture of 1.7 is highly overrated and unnecessary. The human eye does not see that way. Looking at photos taken with an open aperture is unpleasant for the eyes. Large, heavy, slow, highly overrated. The $500 price drop was a logical move. I sympathize with those who bought it for $2300. I replaced it with a 63mm with an f/2.8 aperture and am absolutely happy with this replacement. Don't chase after an aperture of 1.7. It's unnecessary and quickly becomes tiresome. A disappointment, not a lens. Sharp. Universal focal length for portraits. Sturdy construction. That's it. Autofocus seems to transport you back in time about 20 years. It's extremely slow and very noisy, especially in imperfect lighting. Weight and dimensions. Frequent errors with the GFX100S camera: - Failure to operate, resolved by removing the battery and disconnecting/reconnecting the lens - Failure to operate when switching the camera from horizontal to vertical position - Failure to focus without an error message Perhaps all the listed issues are problems of the camera itself when used specifically with this lens, but the remains are still there. Unpleasant background blur. Yes, it's strong, but unnatural, it's painful to look at. |
