This camera was given to me by my wife. The gift was welcome, as the old Canon S2 IS had already desperately failed, turned on every other time and often turned off spontaneously. But, to be honest, I did not need such a powerful zoom. Shooting something most often goes family or a five-year-old son during walks or games I photograph. And for these tasks, a 12x zoom was enough. What surprised me the most wasn't the 40x zoom. The zoom is strong, but there's nothing surprising about that. However, the stabilizer and the shake-reduction system in this device are indeed impressive. Without such stabilization, these 40x wouldn't make sense. But with normal daylight, you really can shoot at maximum zoom settings. The quality is slightly worse than at short focal lengths, but the difference is not that significant. The display at the back is large, three inches with a high-resolution screen. It rotates in one plane, up and down almost 180 degrees, allowing you to easily take shots from "ground level" or from hands raised high above your head. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can connect to the camera via a special Android app and control it remotely. Moreover, this camera accommodates batteries from the old S2 IS as if they were made for it. I had a set of relatively new Sanyo Eneloop batteries, and now they have found a new life in the camera. With strong zooming while shooting handheld, autofocus works out for a long time and is not very confident. Misses happen not often, but regularly. Here, by the way, hands can also influence, because everything turns out much better with a tripod. The technology of zooming up to 80x is generally crazy nonsense, because digital cropping and stretching the picture cannot be called zoom at all. Well, aperture with a long focus is also not enough. In fact, already at ISO 800, noticeable noise begins, but it can still be painlessly corrected with filters. But at 1600 everything is already bad without correction, but with correction the detailing suffers. 3200 and above should not be used at all. |
