The model is positioned as an enhanced alternative to the popular SN770 drive, boasting higher speed performance and more advanced flash memory. It features a modern PCI-E 4.0 interface for data exchange, with peak speeds of up to 7250 MB/s for reading and 6900 MB/s for writing.

Unlike many competitors, the SN7100 is equipped with Western Digital's own controller — the WD A101-000172-A1, with improved energy efficiency.
