The WD Black SN7100 is an update to Western Digital's signature line of NVMe drives, combining high speed, proprietary hardware architecture, and an energy-efficient design. This model is positioned as an enhanced alternative to the popular SN770 drive, offering higher speed performance and more advanced flash memory. The drive is equipped with a modern PCI-E 4.0 interface, achieving peak speeds of up to 7250 MB/s read and 6900 MB/s write.

Unlike many competitors, the SN7100 features Western Digital's proprietary WD A101-000172-A1 controller, with improved energy efficiency. At the core is a 218-layer flash memory from Kioxia, with a dense and robust memory module layout.
