Indesit Company is one of the largest manufacturers of large household appliances from Western Europe. Ukrainian consumers are well aware of such products as refrigerators, washing machines, cooking surfaces, dishwashers and other equipment manufactured under the Indesit brand. The company itself, since 2014, belongs to the American manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation.

It is generally accepted that the history of Indesit began in 1930, when the Italian entrepreneur Aristide Merloni founded the company Industrie Merloni, which was engaged in the production of mechanical scales. Over time, the production of electric heaters, gas cylinders and other similar products was also established. The production of household appliances began much later - only in 1975. And this was done by a subsidiary called Merloni Elettrodomestici SpA. and founded by Vittorio Merloni, son of Aristide.

The Indesit brand appears only in 1985, after the takeover of Industria Elettrodomestici Spirea Italia SpA, which has existed since 1953 (the word "Indesit" is an abbreviation of its name). The new trademark proved so successful that in 2005 Merloni Elettrodomestici changed its name to Indesit Company. Needless to say, by 1988 Merloni's turnover was already more than a billion dollars, the company became the fourth largest manufacturer of household appliances in Western Europe.

Well-known brands owned by Indesit Company include Ariston and Hotpoint. In 2007, in order to optimize production, they were merged into a single brand, called Hotpoint-Ariston. After the Whirlpool Corporation took over Indesit, it was decided to abandon the dual name. Since then, the brand has been called simply Hotpoint. Another, somewhat lesser-known brand owned by the company is Scholtès.
