Sharp and fast. In low light conditions, the stabilizer works its three stops solidly. I've shot with it at a shutter speed of 1/8 without any shake. Not every lens can boast such a shutter speed. As for the "dust collector," when I bought this lens, I immediately bought a filter for it. It's been a year with no dust... I'm satisfied, overall... The main drawback is the price... Perhaps the Japanese set such a high price because there's nothing similar available anywhere else (constant aperture + stabilization), or maybe supply and demand dictate it? i recommend it to everyone who shoots on crop sensors; there is no better reportage lens. The 24-70 L-series lens falls short of this one in terms of sharpness. Super lens: focal lengths for reportage, sharp, constant aperture, fast autofocus, excellent stabilizer. Its price matches the quality, it's not an L-series only because it's for crop, and Canon does not award their crop lenses with the red ring. Tamrons and Sigmas are a letdown, yes, one can try to argue otherwise, but those who own such a lens do not regret a single penny invested. Assembly
The assembly of the lens does not raise any complaints — although it is enclosed in a plastic case, there are no backlashes and creaks during operation. However Japanese engineers did not consider it necessary to endow the glass with dust and water protection. This moment is depressing, especially considering that the lens is considered the best representative of Canon's cropped lenses. Also, it does not have internal focus and the lens draws in dust during operation.
Picture
The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM produces a very colorful picture with a high level of contrast. It is resistant to backlight and is practically not subject to distortion. The latter can occur exclusively at a wide angle and do not cause trouble. The diaphragm consists of 7 petals, due to which objects in the blur zone get a smooth and beautiful blur.
Autofocus and stub

High image quality

Fixed aperture f/2.8 at focal lengths from 17 to 55 mm
High optical quality at a fixed aperture throughout the zoom range allows photographers to set exposure at the widest aperture and concentrate on framing without worrying about adjusting shutter speed at longer focal lengths. The lens is equipped with an almost round convex aperture, which allows you to create a beautiful blurred background.
Image Stabilizer
This lens uses Canon's latest three-stage Image Stabilizer to noticeably reduce blur caused by camera shake. Image Stabilizer greatly enhances the ability to shoot in low light conditions without using a flash, increasing the depth of field. The three-stop system allows the photographer to shoot in low light at a shutter speed of 1/15s instead of 1/125s without any noticeable increase in image blur.

Fast and silent autofocus
The Ultrasonic Motor (USM) generates ultrasonic frequency oscillations for high-speed, near-silent autofocusing. A constant torque motor moves the focus lens group at high speed and stops it exactly when it reaches the desired focus point; this ensures correct focus on the subject on the first try. Full manual focus is also possible, and the user can do it without switching the lens out of autofocus mode by simply turning the focus ring.
Reducing stray light reflection
By refining the Super Spectra lens coating and lens shape, Canon's developers have been able to reduce the ghosting and flare that occurs when using digital cameras due to reflection from the image sensor. By increasing light absorption, Super Spectra coating reduces the reflective effect of the lenses, resulting in bright, clear images with natural colour reproduction.
EOS system integration
When used with Canon EX-series Speedlites, as well as the built-in flashes of the EOS 350D, EOS 20D and the new EOS 30D, the lens transmits distance information to the E-TTL II flash algorithm; this results in more accurate exposure metering.
