the 24-70L is a professional lens for work, sold separately. The 24-105L comes with a box as a standard for full-frame (24/35). (From history, when digital didn't exist. Remember what was sold with the box? If unsure, ask those with experience.) So, the 24-105 is a standard or versatile lens for advanced users. And the 24-70 is a tool for work. As we know, every tool needs to be used properly. As for image quality, don't be lazy, find both lenses and test them yourself. Shoot a neutral gray with even light at min. ISO, and you'll see how evenly the light is distributed. For sharpness, contrast, and color, take a shot of a suitable subject. ALL EF L SERIES OPTICS ARE ONLY FOR FULL FRAME. For EF-S, use optics designed for EF-S. Take care of your optics, even L. When jarred, lenses shift and quality decreases. Protection from moisture is a MYTH; try shooting at -10 and entering a warm room... then try the same with your WR watch... (experienced photographer) ...the most important thing... (for professionals and professional amateurs) in this lens all the lenses are made of optical glass, i.e. not made of plastic. When working in difficult conditions (heat, cold) does not change the optical properties. Microcracks appear in plastic ones and become cloudy over time. In 24-105L there is a suspicion that the aspherical lenses are plastic. This item is an excellent example of a lens designed for professional shooting and exceptionally poor for photography enthusiasts. It feels like it was developed under the motto "Forget about sharpness, let's make everything else top notch." That's how it is: decent geometry, great handling of backlight and glare, excellent build quality, and the system overall, but at 100% viewing open, and not just then - it's blurry!!! If you decided to go on a "landscape" hike or are planning a trip, this lens is not your friend.. But for shooting weddings with it - it's a pleasure. When resized to 3000*2000 (which is enough for most clients), the loss of detail fades, and there are no more downsides.. Regarding common complaints of wear - I can't say, I haven't worn mine out yet. The local repairman says the 24-70 is a frequent "patient," but on the other hand, these repairmen should know very well how to "fix it"... It can be recommended for purchase second-hand for no more than $1200 for wedding shooting, for clubs, and various celebrations, where the detail will be lost anyway due to high ISO. For a perfectionist professional - it's better to recommend the second version, and for demanding amateur shooting, the new stabilized 24-70 f/4 will be much more convenient and reliable - Excellent build and design. (The lens is not quite 24-70, more like 70-24. When the barrel is collapsed, the focal length is 70, and when extended, it's 24. The lens hood is attached to a special bayonet in front of the barrel, so it stays in place when changing focal lengths and works effectively at any focal length. Additionally, the hood protects the most vulnerable part of the construction from rain. This is the "old" school, you don't see this anymore!!! All modern zooms have the transfactor design like your kit lens, and the second version or Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70 seems like a cheap Chinese plastic toy compared to this sturdy lens.) - Excellent image parameters if you forget about detail: vignetting, geometry, color separation, backlighting, flares - all at the highest level!!! - no detail - heavy weight even for its class - curved field of sharpness at a wide angle makes landscape shooting impossible. The edges of the image appear blurry at any resize. Cheap zooms might provide a better result. The fact that it is L series and this says a lot about it!! After I switched to this lens, I immediately felt the difference in photography! Wide-format photos turn out great! And in general you need to know how to use it, and whoever says that this is a bad lens , he’s just jealous of the one who has it!!!! It’s just a joy for me!! Take it, check it and take pictures!! EF 24-70 mm f/2.8L USM provides extended zoom range; while the focal length in the wide-angle position is only 24 mm. New design features of the lens increase the range of focal lengths, while maintaining consistently high image quality. At the same time, the minimum focus distance has been reduced from 0.5m to 0.38m.
Optical characteristics of a zoom lens
The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM uses two types of aspherical lenses to achieve a wider zoom range of 24-70mm. These two elements provide good compensation for zoom distortion while maintaining the excellent image quality of the previous EF 28-70 mm F.2.8L USM.
The optical design of the EF 24-70 mm f/2.8L USM uses a UD (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens that is excellent at compensating for chromatic aberrations that occur when shooting at wide angle. The optical power of the focus group has been increased, as a result of which the minimum focal length has decreased to 38 cm throughout the entire range of focal lengths, which is the shortest focal length for lenses in this class *.
The new type electromagnetic diaphragm (EMD) has an almost round hole when fully opened. This improves the blurring of the background outside the focus area.

Mechanical characteristics
