Performance-cores are high-performance cores capable of simultaneously executing up to two computation threads. Efficient-core — energy-efficient cores do not support Hyper-Threading and are designed to handle background workloads.
Affordable 12-thread 12th Gen Intel Core i5 processor from the Alder Lake family. It is manufactured on the basis of an optimized 10nm process technology and is designed for installation in motherboards with Socket 1700 connector. It is a representative of the middle class with an optimal balance between price, performance and heat dissipation. The Core i5-12400F is manufactured using a new 10nm process technology and is designed for installation in a motherboard with a Socket 1700 connector.
Unlike older Core i7/i9 processors from the Alder Lake family, which are equipped with hybrid P and E cores, this model uses only P-nuclei. There are 6 such cores in total (+ 6 more virtual ones), in normal mode they operate at a frequency of 2.5 GHz, and in case of lack of computing power they can be overclocked to 4.4 GHz. The volume of the third level cache is 18 MB. An important innovation of the Alder Lake architecture is the use of the PCI-E 5.0 bus and simultaneous support for DDR4 3200 and DDR5 4800 RAM formats.
To install the processor, you will need a motherboard no earlier than 2020, equipped with an LGA 1700 socket and a 400 or 500 chipset series. The declared TDP of the model is 65 W, standard for the series; at peak load it can rise to 117 W. The stock cooler copes well with this heat dissipation. With an increased number of cores, increased clock speeds, and support for Hyper Threading technology, the Core i5-12400F's performance matches that of the previous and last generation Core i7 models, making it one of the best 6-core processors for gaming.

I'm adding this processor to my new PC, and I'm happy with this choice. Intel core i5 12400 is a modern, powerful and economical processor that is suitable for a variety of purposes. The main advantage is that it has 6 cores and 12 threads, ensuring fast and uninterrupted operation in games, applications, and browsers. Its TDP is 65 W, so it consumes little energy and produces little heat. It also features integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730, which can be useful for a while until a graphics card is purchased. The package includes a standard cooler that provides adequate cooling for the processor. It is priced affordably, matching its quality and performance. Blender Benchmark 4.3.0 Score: 216.14. Cinebench R24: CPU (Multi Core) = 961 pts / CPU (Single Core) = 112 pts / MP Ratio – 8.55 x. AIDA64 Extreme: Min = 25 C / Max = 50 C / Average = 46 C. During stress tests, no throttling, crashes, or errors were detected. The number of cores and threads is sufficient, and it handles multitasking well. Lacks integrated graphics but supports overclocking. Suitable for mid-range gaming systems and workstations: provides good FPS, high performance in multitasking, and flexibility in RAM and PCIe, only slightly lagging behind the more expensive six-core Ryzen 7 in narrow rendering tasks. Large third-level cache, larger than the i5 12400F, which improves frame rates by 2–3% in some scenes. 125 W (Max 150 W under real load) ensures stable operation under load but requires effective cooling for overclocking. The unlocked multiplier allows for manual overclocking — up to +200–300 MHz on P-cores without a significant temperature spike. Relatively low price. Good number and performance of cores/threads. This processor is working in my PC paired with a KFA2 RTX 3070. This setup is relevant for gaming in all the new releases even in 2025. The cooling for this CPU is handled by the Zezzio ZH-C400 ARGB V2 tower cooler. All of this is housed in a closed DarkFlash DLM21 case with a single 120mm exhaust fan. After 30 minutes of stress testing in OCCT, the maximum temperature was 82 degrees. No throttling has been observed in a year of use.
