The first entry in Nikon's full-frame DSLR fleet, armed with an AF-P stepper autofocus motor. A drive of this type focuses almost silently from a distance of 1.25 m, which will be appreciated by videographers. Also, videographers will come in handy with electronic aperture control, which allows you to smoothly change the depth of field and exposure of the frame right during the shooting.

In addition, the Nikon 70-300mm f / 4.5-5.6E AF-P ED VR Nikkor is equipped with an optical image stabilization system with a claimed efficiency of up to 4.5 shutter or exposure stops. The work of the built-in stub is adjusted in two modes: standard and Sport VR. The lens has 9 aperture blades and an optical scheme according to the formula "18 elements in 14 groups". One of the elements in the circuit is made of ED glass (to reduce chromatic aberrations). The model is made in a splash-proof housing with dimensions of 81x146 mm and a weight of about 680 g. You can use filters with a diameter of 67 mm together with it.

I bought it as an experiment, because I don't really like dark optics. I had fixes, 200-400 mm. I wanted a station wagon, maybe with a fix it is extremely inconvenient in dynamics. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I chose this model as one of the most budgetary ones with a stabilizer. On a sunny day, the photos are excellent, although some focal lengths were slightly disappointing. We are talking about 200-220 mm, in this range the sharpness drops slightly. Not critical, but I noticed. Regarding 300 mm, with the right camera settings, super shots are obtained. Even despite the 5.6 aperture, which by the way is rarely used, since the sharpness is worse than one stop more. Having already bought this lens, I got acquainted with stepper motors. Focusing is really very soft and nimble. For video, it's great. But even with a stub, it is impossible to shoot at 300 mm without a tripod, as there is strong shaking, very noticeable in the video. I will note two focus modes in which you can shoot while standing and moving. In sport mode, stabilization is maximum, and I move calmly, albeit slowly. But provided that the shutter speed is shorter than 1/80. The case is well knocked down, but very large, I had to buy a new bag. The weight is acceptable, but still, this is not a light lens. Overall, I am satisfied, but I will give it 4 out of 5.
Picture quality on relatively bright days. Good autofocus, very soft on the target + quiet. Working stub, even in motion. The case is knocked down, well assembled.
Very long, which imposes certain inconveniences in working with it. Some focal lengths are not as sharp as we would like.
