Best AF "macro" lens for Nikon crop DSLRs VERY sharp, even wide open, which is definitely very cool for macro photography. Light, almost unnoticeable on the camera. Quality build, no play or squeaks. Focuses "point-blank" at the object. Ability for manual and fairly precise focus adjustments, which is important with minimal DOF. The focusing speed also did not disappoint - sufficient to catch an insect or a bright dewdrop in the frame. The silent focusing drive does not scare insects and other animals, so you can get closer. The focus distance scale window often helps in situations when autofocus does not perform well. The included hood saves from flare and situations where the front lens extends and might bump into the shooting object. The front lens looks far ahead for an hour of focusing. Don't use precise autofocus. Inaccessibility of F2.8 aperture at minimum focusing distances. The presence of optical stabilization often leads to blurry shots when focusing with hands. ![]() |
