A bright representative of hobby machines
The inexpensive "ribbon" Ryobi RBS-904 is a hobby-class machine. It is desktop, but it can be installed and fixed on a workbench (for this, holes for bolts are provided in the base). A vacuum cleaner (branded or any other) is connected to the saw.
With the help of this saw it is convenient to work with any "small things". Its die-cast aluminium table is relatively small (305x305mm) and can accommodate parts up to 230mm wide. The maximum cutting depth does not exceed 80 mm (experienced users recommend limiting it to 50 mm when processing soft woods and 35 mm when working with hard ones).
Features and Tips
The machine is suitable for solving most typical tasks — that is, making straight and figured cuts, as well as cuts at an angle and with an inclination. The presence of two stops (parallel and angular) greatly helps to perform repetitive actions for serial processing of the same parts. Using thin tapes (webs 3.2 – 9.5 mm wide are installed on the machine), it is possible to cut wood along small radius curves. But the tapes themselves are of a rare size (1572 mm long). They are not found on the market too often, so buy saw blades for the future.
Hush the grass
The Ryobi RBS-904 is almost a "twin" of the popular Jet JWBS-9X saw. The only significant difference between the two is the engine. At Ryobi, it is more modern, asynchronous, very quiet. Machines with low-noise "asynchronous" are great for organizing a workshop in the basement, garage or even on the balcony. But if the issue of noise is not a matter of principle, then decide for yourself which equipment you trust more: light green "Japanese" Ryobi or white "Swiss" Jet (both are made in good factories in China).
If you want to save on a circular saw and cut with a bandsaw, this is not the right bandsaw - very low productivity and rough cutting.
Replaced the standard blade with a Bahco blade - the cut became much cleaner, but the speed dropped and the surface quality is still far inferior to a circular saw.
This small bandsaw can be a good replacement for a jigsaw, but only for cutting curves.
