Hybrid flash drive and SSD
In recent years, there has not been much revival on the flash drive market - the use of the same types of memory and the same interfaces puts most models on the same line, so some additional features such as a shockproof case or two-way connectors come to the fore. And in 2021, Transcend engineers decided to break this calm by releasing the JetFlash 930C hybrid model, built on the basis of 3D NAND flash memory, which is commonly used in SSD drives.
Impressive read speeds up to 420 Mbps
Thanks to this, the JetFlash 930C is theoretically capable of providing unprecedented read and write speeds for its counterparts - 420 MB / s and 400 MB / s, respectively. Such high-speed performance allowed the company to advertise the JetFlash 930C as a universal ultra-compact drive for game consoles. However, some clarity is needed here. The relationship with SSD drives leaves its mark: a small amount of static SLC cache quickly fills up when transferring large archives (for example, a gaming distribution kit) and then the write speed to the flash drive drops to the more usual 150 – 180 MB / s. This applies only to writing large files, when copying small files or reading from a flash drive, the speed corresponds to the claimed one.
Reversible model with USB-C and USB A plugs
The drive is made in a stylish metal case made of aluminium alloy with a gold finish. A big plus is that the case of the drive is made in a “two-handed” format - on each side it has USB-C and USB A plugs that cover the protective caps. Thus, the drive unleashes your hands as much as possible when copying files between a smartphone, computer, laptop, TV or game console. However both ports cannot be used at the same time, and the caps tend to get lost. But as a bonus, the model comes with a traditional Transcend additional software package, which includes the Transcend Elite data management utility and the RecoveRx data archiving and recovery package.
Upd: added 2 more measurements (photos 3,4) from a more powerful PC. The speed is excellent, but doesn't last long. After the cache fills up, the speed drops significantly.
