Available and versatile SATA SSD drive from Crucial's popular MX series (2018). It is positioned by the manufacturer as an affordable and more versatile alternative to popular M.2 SSDs with the NVMe protocol. It offers a good price-to-performance ratio for users who need a simple and reliable way to replace an outdated hard drive with a modern SSD without extra costs. It is ideal for office PCs, study laptops, and home multimedia systems, where increased speed is critical without the need to switch to more expensive solutions. Thanks to SATA 3 and SATA 2 backward compatibility, it is suitable for use with not the most modern equipment without PCI-E 3.0 interface support and older. The manufacturer claims a passport data reading speed of 560 MB/s and a writing speed of 510 MB/s. On one hand..., this is the peak value for the SATA 3 interface, and on the other hand, it is several times faster than the speed of classic hard drives. It is important to note that the device does not have a cache or dedicated buffer, which may lead to a slight decrease in writing speed during continuous work with large files. Random access performance is estimated at 90,000 IOPS for reading and 95,000 IOPS for writing. The write resource corresponds to the level of entry-level solutions for the consumer segment and is 360 TB. The lack of detailed data about the controller indicates the use of one of the basic solutions typical for budget-class drives, where the focus is on cost and energy efficiency. The manufacturer's warranty is 5 years.

Completely satisfied.

I’m already taking the 2nd one. First I took it to 250GB in a laptop to replace the HDD, the laptop just found a 2nd life with SDD. And after a couple of years I realized that this volume was not enough for me, and replaced it with 512GB, and put the old bate in the computer. Both work and please with the responsiveness of the system.
Price quality.
Didn't find it.

What you need for games

I had a choice between this SSD and the Samsung 860 EVO, since they are very similar in terms of speed, except for the MTBF, which is higher for Samsung, but the subject wins in price. As a result, I took this ssd for myself on the recommendation of my friend who took exactly the same one for 1TB in a system unit for games. I put it in my PS4 because long downloads have already begun to strain. Before throwing it into the curling iron, I tested it on a PC. In terms of speeds, everything is at the level declared, which cannot but rejoice. I didn’t find any big minuses, I didn’t encounter a drop in speed when the controller was heated (as they wrote in the reviews), apparently my use case is far enough from such tasks to encounter a similar problem. Now the games on the curling iron load much faster and their games are updated faster, which of course I am very happy about. I recommend this item for purchase.

Powered by Silicon Motion SM2258

The Crucial MX500 is an affordable yet powerful 1000GB SSD built around Micron's second generation of 64-layer TLC 3D NAND memory. It is the older brother of another popular Crucial BX500 drive with a more advanced version of the Silicon Motion SM2258 control controller. Compared to the younger SM2258XT, it works more efficiently with multi-layer flash memory and SLC caching algorithms.

Maximum speed 560MB/s

Passport data MX500 is almost the same as that of his brother Crucial BX500. Both have linear write and read speeds that slightly exceed 500 MB / s, and the speed when copying small-caliber files is 90 and 95 thousand IOPS for writing and reading, which is an excellent indicator. In synthetic tests, the MX500 stays peppy and performs as advertised in most cases. At the same time, it expectedly sags in speed when the cache is filled. Like most low-cost SSD drives, writing large amounts of data is not their forte.

Stable and predictable SSD

In general, due to the need for constant savings and the limitations of the SATA 3 bus, most 2.5 ”SSDs have similar problems. Against their background, the Crucial MX500 stands out in that it works stably and predictably, does not mow and does not suffer from strong speed drops. At the same time, it has an official proprietary five-year warranty and a 360 TB write resource, which allows you to write about 80 GB of data to the device daily for more than 10 years. Actually, that is why even after 5 years since the release of the MX500 remains one of the most popular drives in its class.
