Premium wide-angle lens for Nikon F-mount systems with full frame sensors. Claimed by the manufacturer as the first device of its kind with a built-in image stabilizer, which facilitates handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds. Another feature is the f / 4.0 aperture, which is unchanged over the entire range of focal lengths. The mentioned range is 16-35 mm. The aperture has 9 blades, which provides a soft background blur when shooting. Autofocus drive — ultrasonic.

Nikon made a very good landscape lens, and also quite suitable for city shooting and shooting static objects in the evening. The presence of a pronounced barrel at a wide angle can hardly be considered a major drawback, because it can be easily corrected in editors, and besides, this feature can be used to obtain some artistic effects. For those who are thinking of using it for interiors, I don’t think this is a suitable choice, again because of the same barrel, in this case it is better to aim at 17-35/2.8. What I liked most was the small number of HAs; I found them only at the very edges of the frame and in such small quantities that they don’t need to be edited. It is difficult to recommend it for DX cameras due to the crop. I have not yet tested it for hare-catching ability. Overall, I really liked it. I liked it so much that I use it as a standard one. Cutting. High detail. Almost complete absence of CA. Durable magnesium housing. No retractable tubes when zooming. The front lens does not rotate. Effective stabil. Lightweight compared to 24-70. Quite a strong kick on short FRs. It focuses poorly on homogeneous objects, it can’t be compared with the 24-70, I think it’s a problem with the aperture ratio. Quite large. ![]() |
Excellent at shooting interiors, reports, and the city at night. It works interestingly at close range, unexpectedly beautiful bokeh. Distortion at 16mm is optimal; when photographing people, there is no strong stretching of faces on the sides; if the distortion were zero, then the faces would be stretched out excessively. It’s a real pleasure to shoot with them. Fine elaboration of details and color transitions. Particularly successful are landscapes, mountain, sea, forest, and urban. I often use a polarizing filter. If I take it with other lenses, this one stays on the camera the longest. Juicy beautiful color of the image. There are practically no light halos and spots when shooting against the sun. Beautiful background blur. High sharpness across the entire focal length range. Very convenient focal length range. Fast and accurate autofocus. The distortion is uniform, an even arc, and therefore can be easily corrected in the editor. High quality construction. The long lens size is convenient; the photographer’s hands and clothes do not get into the frame when shooting at a wide angle. The presence of a stabilizer. No use Nikon 16-35mm f/4.0G VR AF-S ED Nikkor month or more i recommend it should buy |

From the press release:
Nikon Europe has announced the launch of the AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm F/4G ED VR, the world's first ultra wide-angle lens with vibration reduction for FX cameras. The novelty is a practical and inexpensive lens for everyday photography with FX format cameras, such as the D700.
The AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm F/4G ED VR has enough power for all kinds of wide-angle shooting. We created it to meet the demand for affordable alternatives to the professional AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lenses and the newer AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens.
Sharper photos when shooting at slow shutter speeds without a tripod
The AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm F/4G ED VR lens is the world's first wide-angle lens with vibration reduction technology to capture sharp images at slow shutter speeds. Thanks to this technology, the maximum allowable shutter speed under the given shooting conditions becomes four steps longer. VR technology is especially useful when shooting in low light conditions at full aperture (f/4).
Best in class image quality
The new lens uses a sophisticated optical design with Nikon's unique Nano Crystal anti-reflective coating, two ED glass elements and at least three aspherical glass elements to minimize distortion and aberration even at full aperture. The VR II system and silent ultrasonic drive virtually eliminate lens noise, while the nine rounded blade pattern delivers amazing bokeh.
Built for everyday use
The AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm F/4G ED VR is a great fit for relatively compact FX format cameras like the D700 and was designed specifically with everyday photography in mind. With a durable magnesium construction and dust and moisture resistance, this lens is a great choice for amateur and professional photographers with an active lifestyle. Supplied with durable HB-23 lens hood and soft case. The start of the sale is scheduled for February 19, 2010.
