As a regular lens, for daily wear, it is not very suitable due to its size and weight. However, it is very good indoors, for wedding or sports photography. Despite being recommended for FF matrices, I believe this lens is ideal for crop sensors. Fast aperture. Quite sharp (fully resolves the D700 sensor). Focuses very quickly and accurately. Low geom. distortions. Quite versatile. Protected. Expensive. Noticeable chromatic aberration at the edges of the frame, decreases with an increase in the focal length. Blurs at the edges. Heavy. I've been using it for over a year. Bought it as a stock item for FF. I don't like it. I don't see alternatives to this lens. Primes are slow, and competitors are even worse. Versatility. Pleasant weight (can shoot handheld at long exposures). Fast autofocus. Plastic! Does not match the D800 matrix. Mediocre sharpness at 2.8; needs to be stopped down to 3.5. Strong CA. It took me some time to get used to it... At first I was even a little upset because of the extreme positions... But I got used to it (even at the extremes) and now it is my main lens. This glass is very good but not magical :-) Fast, light, sharp, looks decent. the extreme positions of both focal and aperture are not quite 100% working.....And of course the price!
