For the first camera of a self-assertive teenager, it fits all parameters.

I bought my 12-year-old son his first camera. The option with a DSLR was dismissed immediately. Although he wanted a big adult camera with good optical zoom, he would ruin it quickly, without a doubt. However, the Sony DSC-HX400 met all the parameters perfectly. It’s large, and the extendable "tube" of the ultra-zoom is impressive, and you can feel the weight in your hands. There were no questions about the quality of the pictures. Could Sony have issues with quality? All the equipment of this brand that I have used in my 42 years can be divided into two categories: excellent and superb.)))

20 MP sensor with physical dimensions of 1/2.3?. Well, there are certainly not real 20MP, but the image quality and detail are at a decent level. Carl Zeiss optics with a focal length range from 24 to 1200mm. Simply impressive, 50x optical zoom. Really effective stabilizer. At zoom levels close to maximum, this is very helpful. Shoots excellent 1080p video at a frame rate of 50. The zoom can be adjusted during shooting. The stabilizer works no worse than when photographing. Three-inch swivel touchscreen. Convenient and functional. The menu is organized correctly and well thought out. The body of the device is large, with a good, reliable grip.

Due to the massive lens with a big zoom, it's difficult to shoot with one hand. The lens significantly outweighs. The red and blue in the photos are slightly more saturated than in reality. They say it's a signature feature of Sony. There's no support for RAW.

I've been using the camera for about two years. It's not my first one. I read the comments above and concluded that the camera should be tested in the store and possibly choose one from those offered. Because I can't agree about the "watercolor effect" at all. Under the same conditions, we shot with a Nikon 3300... In my experience, in terms of color, sharpness, and overall rendering, the NX 400 is significantly better in the normal landscape shooting mode, just by eye.

Zoom is excellent. Afraid your hand will shake and blur something? Too lazy to put it on a cheap tripod? Everything will be great. It seems it should have been bought earlier. I bought it for 14,000 rubles as soon as everything fell apart at that well-known moment.

Yes, the battery is a bit small. A new one costs 1000 rubles (not necessarily an original Sony). The cover - yes too. I'm always afraid of losing it for about two years now :)

An excellent camera for both video and photos, the Sony HX400!

I’m letting those who criticize this camera know! You probably got a fake camera or one that fell on the ground, or after it was repaired!!!? Well, the Sony DSC HX400 or Sony HX 400V (the difference is in GLONASS, and that's it) shoot video and especially photos in the light as well as any DSLR!!! Yes, I agree, without a flash, photos taken at night aren’t great! But in the light, the photographs are wonderful! Check where and how you bought your "wonderful" camera better! Before badmouthing this camera that takes great pictures, especially during the day or with enough light! Maybe your hands are shaking for some reason???

Excellent photos even in Super Auto mode!!! If you want to take pictures without stressing about photography, the best and wonderful mode is P. Everything is already set up anytime day or night, although in the dark photos can be a bit blurry!! A little light and photos of excellent quality! Well, of course, in the Sony HX400 or 400V there are no 20 MP! About 12 MP! But that's enough for excellent video and great photos! A wonderful camera especially for traveling! And at a wedding with a flash, it takes photos beautifully! I have a Nikon D 7200 and I didn't notice much difference in photo quality, as long as there's enough light or with a flash!

No string on the lid. Without an additional battery, you might run out of power while recording a video!!!
