The Speedlite 580EX II is attached to the EOS-1D Mark III and can be used in all weather conditions. In addition, you can control the operation of this flash using the camera menu. Compared to its predecessor, the Speedlite 580 EX, the new flash has a faster recycling time and a more robust design. The new Off-Camera Shoe Cable, Compact Battery Pack and Speedlite Flash Mount (also introduced today) are dust and moisture resistant when shooting with the Off-Camera Shoe.

Many features of the Speedlite 580EX II have been improved over its predecessor. Flash recycle is silent and 20% faster. The use of a protective cover ensures that the WFT-E2 Wireless File Transmitter connected to the EOS-1D Mark III is protected from moisture and dust as well as the camera itself. The redesigned metal flash base and contacts provide a more secure interaction between the camera and the flash, while the quick release mechanism reduces wear on both units. The flash head has a wide zoom range (24 – 105mm) and the built-in diffuser panel provides a wider flash coverage (up to 14mm).

The new OC-E3 Off-Camera Shoe Cable, CP-E4 Compact Battery Pack and SB-E2 Speedlite Flash Mount are also sealed against moisture and dust, giving the photographer a complete system that allows off-camera flash use even in difficult weather conditions.
