    Great compact camera
    30 October 2017
I wanted to buy a compact camera that, with a mass and size similar to smartphones, would shoot much better than my Galaxy S7. He, of course, is also good, but the lens is small and in many situations it simply does not have enough aperture. This camera weighs a little more than 200 grams, which is much more than the same Samsung smart, but its dimensions are modest, one might say pocket-sized, and the quality of its photos (about 5500x3600 pixels) is a completely different level.
It has a high-quality steel body, a fully retractable lens, and convenient touch controls from a high-quality three-inch display. By default, it saves images in JPEGs, but it can also do so in RAW format. It can shoot in bursts of 4 or 8 frames per second. The autofocus performance is impressive, including continuous tracking, and the automatic white balance almost always works correctly. The most remarkable feature of this camera is the intelligent Smart Auto mode. It's truly an incredible feature. For example, it can memorize certain people's faces (well, you have to train it first), and then recognize them and automatically engage various features of its operation. For instance, if I'm photographing my three-year-old son, who is always running, spinning, and generally doesn't want to sit still, it can enable burst shooting or a mode with continuous autofocus. Incredibly cool! You might even forgive it for some mistakes, as it doesn't always correctly recognize faces. However, the camera can connect to a smartphone "over the air," and you can control it from a special app, so it has excellent capabilities for advanced selfies.
Sometimes Smart Auto does not work quite correctly, but it does not matter, because you can always switch to manual or manual settings on the floor. The battery is not bad, it lasts for about 200-250 shots, but with the advent of autumn it immediately became clear that its capacity is small.

The second iteration of the youngest of Canon's premium compacts is a cosmetic update to the ancestor of the series, the Canon PowerShot G9 X camera. There are many more things in common with it than dramatic changes.

    The continuity of generations

Both versions of the camera use a similar inch sensor with a resolution of 20 MP, a 28-84 mm zoom lens with a floating aperture of f / 2.0-4.9 and an optical stub in their arsenal (it is complemented by a 5-axis matrix image stabilization system), as well as 3- inch touch screen. For the sake of compactness, the last element is made non-rotatable, which makes it slightly difficult to sight when photographing from non-standard angles. However, in such cases, you can compose a frame from a smartphone, having previously connected to it via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi networks or using an NFC chip.

    Innovations

Innovations in the Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II touched on body materials (metal is used instead of plastic, but the model has not gained weight) and the type of image processor installed. The DIGIC 7 chip ensures better performance of the camera at high ISOs (you can get a low-noise picture when shooting at ISO values up to 1600-3200 units) and assists in overclocking when photographing in bursts up to 8 fps. Complementing the overall picture is a nimble and tenacious autofocus system that works without misses both in daylight and in low light conditions.

    Everyday Camera

Adherents to embellish photographs are provided with 17 preset creative filters, for most of which the degree of impact is adjustable. But it still could not do without a couple of fly in the ointment — the camera is unlikely to please with long battery life (a 1250 mAh battery charge is enough for 200-220 shots), and many will not like the minimum shutter speed of 1/2000 s (in bright sunny day it is easy to get overexposed pictures). Despite these aspects, the compact is aimed at everyday use by those photographers who want to always carry a camera with them. And if its capabilities do not fully satisfy the needs of creative individuals, you can always look at the older relative of the model in the face of the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II.
