The model has an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system with AI-based object recognition. Mirrorless autofocus is focused on the eyes and faces of people, muzzles of animals, cars, etc.
Moreover, the minimum focusing time is declared at the level of 0.03 sec. When shooting with a mechanical shutter, the Canon EOS R8 body develops a rate of fire of up to 6 fps - the burst duration in any of the formats is over 1000 frames. The electronic shutter allows you to increase the speed of continuous photography up to 40 fps, but the camera's memory buffer fills up in just 2-3 seconds.
Shooting results are recorded on a UHS-II SD card. Video recording on the camera is performed in a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 fps. The model supports shooting in Log 3 10-bit with 4:2:2 subsampling, recording in HDR PQ and HDR is also available. The only thing missing from the mirrorless is the matrix image stabilization system. The Canon EOS R8 is a full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at advanced enthusiasts. It is positioned as a simplified version of the Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
Similarity to the previous model
The camera borrowed a 24-megapixel matrix and DIGIC X image processor from its older brother. In addition, the model is equipped with an improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF II phase autofocus system, which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to recognize objects in the frame. However, it is worth noting that the mirrorless camera has lost its built-in stabilizer. When shooting, you will have to rely on electronic stabilization or stabilized optics.
Speed characteristics
The camera is equipped with a mechanical shutter, which allows for continuous shooting at a speed of up to 6 fps. If desired, the user can switch to an electronic shutter, which provides a speed of up to 40 fps, but in this case, the memory buffer quickly runs out of space. Photos are saved to a UHS-II SD card, for which one slot is provided.
