Price (for winter model), 3-layer insulation, pillow compartment and light-accumulating loop.
Large dimensions when folded.

Already by the name of the model Alaska 450 of the Terra Incognita brand one can understand the intended purpose of the sleeping bag. It is created for demanding users who need high thermal insulation properties. Three layers of HollowCore 7 synthetic insulation are used here. Elements such as an anatomical hood, collar and an additional roll along the zipper are also designed to reduce heat loss.

It is stated that the Terra Incognita Alaska 450 is designed for overnight stays in temperatures down to -18 °C. It will be hot to sleep in the model at temperatures above +10 degrees Celsius, and unsafe for health at temperatures below -32 °C.

The sleeping bag has a cocoon form factor, that is, its 80-centimeter width at the shoulders narrows to 50 cm at the legs. The total length of the product is 220 cm, which is suitable for most users (with the exception of the tallest tourists). On the outside, dense polyester with Rip Stop tear protection is used, and the role of the lining is assigned to the “breathable” and lightweight synthetic material Micro Polyester.

Two sleeping bags can be combined into one double (you need models with a left and right zipper, respectively). In addition to the usual pocket for small items, an anti-biting fabric protection system, there is also a light-accumulating slider and a compartment for a pillow.

The sleeping bag weighs 2.26 kg, which can be considered an acceptable figure for a winter expeditionary model. But due to the use of a synthetic seal, even in a compression bag the dimensions leave much to be desired (45x30x30 cm - volume over 40 liters). True, Terra Incognita Alaska 450 has an affordable price, so if you want a frost-resistant cocoon without overpayments, then this solution from a time-tested Ukrainian brand should definitely not be ignored.

Dense combined insulation, front zipper.
Large dimensions when folded, no fastening.

The winter sleeping bag of the Ukrainian brand Turbat is offered in two versions - Reg (length 215 cm for heights up to 185 cm) and Long (225 and 195 cm, respectively). At the same time, the width invariably varies from 80 to 50 cm, and the interesting design is emphasized by the color division into light and dark sand “halves”.

Turbat Vogen Winter 185 uses exclusive combined insulation TTLoft Wool Insulation. It consists of a synthetic part (70%) and natural wool (30%). The latter should help you warm up faster and better retain heat inside, while polyester fibers should protect from moisture and provide high hypoallergenic properties.

A cocoon sleeping bag can be used during the cold season - from the second half of autumn to the end of April. Thanks to the dense thermal insulation material (500 g/m) and additional structural elements (thermal rollers and collar), men can count on complete rest without waking up at temperatures down to -13 °C, and women and beginner hikers - down to -7 °C.

The outside and inside of the product is covered with synthetic materials from the Japanese brand Toray - we are talking about dense water-repellent polyester and tactilely pleasant Taffeta fabric. It is stated that the sleeping bag was made in Ukraine.

The model's features include a front zipper. It is designed to speed up unfastening and fastening, because the principle of operation is similar to the operation of a jacket or other clothing. It is comfortable to sit in a partially open sleeping bag without opening your shoulders and letting out the heat. As in other cases, when completely unzipped, you can use the product as a blanket. True, the front zipper also has a minus - the lack of a function for combining two sleeping bags into one large one.

Despite the presence of a complete compression bag, when folded the Turbat Vogen Winter 185 is by no means small (38x32x32 cm - almost 39 liters). At the same time, the weight (2.3 kg) is quite acceptable for a winter solution, and in general, the model is a balanced mid-budget choice that provides warmth and comfortable operation.

3-layer insulation, pillow compartment and light-catching loop.
No significant deficiencies were identified.

The expedition sleeping bag produced by Pinguin is intended for winter tourism, including mountain climbing. It is stated that users can count on a comfortable overnight stay even at temperatures ranging from -8 to -16 °C. Very experienced hikers should focus on the second meaning, and beginners and women should focus on the first.

The main thermal insulation material of Pinguin Expert CCS 195 2020 is three layers of BHB Micro synthetics. This fabric is not afraid of moisture (unlike natural insulation), and also provides a balance of weight and size. So, for a winter solution, the sleeping bag is not heavy (2.1 kg), and when compressed in the included compression bag, it has very modest dimensions (33x26x26 cm, that is, a volume of about 22 liters).

In addition to practical synthetic materials (nylon on the outside and polyester on the inside), the cocoon includes high-quality fittings from the Japanese brand YKK. The zipper also has the usual protection against biting the fabric and is supplemented with reflective elements on the slider, which make it more visible in the dark. It is also worth highlighting the presence of a compartment for a pillow, a well-tightened hood with a thermal collar and loops for drying.

Two sleeping bags can be zipped together into one double, which will allow you to quickly warm up or not freeze in even more severe frosts. Pinguin Expert CCS 195 2020 is an interesting winter model that combines decent thermal insulation with good equipment and small dimensions.

Natural down, double zipper + fastener in the legs, light-catching loop.
No significant deficiencies were identified.

The Marmot sleeping bag is designed for tourists up to 183 cm tall. It is primarily notable for its materials. So, the outer layer and lining here are made of recycled nylon. The outside is made from moisture-resistant fabric, while the inside is made from soft Taffeta textiles.

High thermal insulation properties of Marmot Never Summer are provided by natural duck down. It effectively protects against heat loss, while being relatively lightweight (the cocoon weighs 1.8 kg in total) and does not take up much space compared to synthetic analogues.

The model is equipped with a drawable hood and collar, which are designed to protect the neck and head from the cold. For convenience, there is also an internal pocket and light-catching loops.

The lightning system deserves special mention. The main clasp here is double, which adds convenience during operation, allows for additional ventilation, etc. In addition, there is a zipper in the legs. On a warm night, you can open it to provide ventilation and add space to your feet (without feeling cramped).

The manufacturer states that the sleeping bag is rated for temperatures down to -18 C (or 0 °F). At the same time, ISO tests were also carried out, which showed that men can sleep comfortably outdoors in temperatures down to -15, and women - down to -8 degrees Celsius.

The package does not include a compression bag, but a regular carrying case. But even in the latter, the cocoon is not too bulky - 45x21x21 cm (volume less than 20 liters).

Marmot Never Summer is a practical winter sleeping bag with a convenient zipper system.

Natural down, temperature tested according to EN 23537, two-way zipper, Bluesign and Green Button certified.
Price, no fastening.

The Astro Pro 1000 series of the warmest sleeping bags from Deuter offers three size options - SL (slim line) (conditionally a female model for heights up to 175 cm), regular Reg (up to 185 cm) and large - for tall tourists (up to 2 meters) . The last cocoon, meanwhile, is quite compact (width at the shoulders 75 cm), but the manufacturer assures that elastic materials are used here. For example, the inner shell stretches by almost 25% so that the tourist does not feel cramped.

The Deuter Astro Pro 1000 EL has a contoured ThermoHood hood, has special seams protected from heat loss, a collar and a roller along the zipper (it is double, by the way, for greater user convenience). Among other little things, it is worth highlighting the internal pocket, contrasting laces for tightening, and a travel compression bag, in which the model does not take up much space - the volume is about 21 liters (43x22x22 cm).

Between the nylon “top” and the lining there is natural insulation - RDS-certified duck down. This guarantees not only high thermal insulation, but also humane treatment of the birds that provide this raw material. The weight of the insulation is about 1 kg, and the weight of the sleeping bag ultimately does not exceed 1650 grams (including the compression cover).

The cocoon has been tested in accordance with the EN 23537 standard, so there is no doubt about the declared temperature conditions. So, men can use the model on frosty nights, when the thermometer drops to -18 °C, and women and freezing people - to -11 °C.

The advantages of the model include its compliance with several “green” standards, namely Bluesign and Green Button. These independent organizations certify that the sleeping bag has been manufactured using strict environmental criteria and that the purchaser is committed to sustainability and cares for the environment.

The disadvantages of a sleeping bag are the lack of zipping capabilities and the high price. But if you want camping gear that's guaranteed to be warm, eco-friendly, and easy to use, the Deuter Astro Pro 1000 EL is worth paying extra for.
