The manufacturer positions it as an affordable and reliable system drive in a PC or laptop, from which it is not required to overwrite 300-500 GB of data daily. Due to its affordable price, it is an inexpensive and much faster alternative to old and clumsy HDD drives.
Refers to the 2.5” format and supports connection via SATA 3 bus. Kingston A400 SA400S37/960G is assembled from a 4-bit 3D TLC NAND flash memory array, the available Phison PS3111-S11 solution is used as a control controller. To keep up with the times in 2020, Kingston engineers equipped the device with a small 32 MB DRAM buffer, which helps it keep speed at an acceptable level when writing large amounts of data, whether it be gaming distributions, a collection of favorite 4K movies, work projects in conditional Pro Tools, etc.
To further improve efficiency, about 6% of the total drive capacity was allocated for the SLC cache. The sequential read and write speeds declared by the manufacturer are 500 and 450 MB / s, respectively. It is important to note that this is the ceiling for the SATA3 bus, only M.2 SSD drives supporting the NVMe protocol can provide faster performance. The manufacturer declares a guaranteed write resource of 300 TB, thanks to which the user can rewrite about 150 GB of data daily for 5 years.

Installed this drive as primary and the result is really impressive system boots instantly, programs open quickly and files are copied without delay. Significantly less time is spent on performing all tasks compared to a traditional HDD. While it's not the fastest SSD on the market, it's more than enough performance for most users. It is quite reliable and works without noticeable problems, so if you are looking for a budget option, this will be the best choice.
The design is not very impressive, but functionally everything is at the highest level. To some extent, the price and performance make it an excellent value for money. Good work speed

Evolution of Kingston
Ever since the Kingston A400 hit the market in 2017, it hasn't dropped out of the sales charts for a single day. Even when the prices of fast M.2 SSDs dropped noticeably. The reason for the success was the record low cost per gigabyte and the constant improvement of the device. When the A400 first went on sale, it was a bufferless solid-state based on TLC 3D NAND memory.
Phison PS3111-S11 controller
In 2023, it uses four-bit memory, a small DRAM buffer appeared, and the Phison PS3111-S11 controller controls all this goodness, which, unlike the old Marvell controllers, connects to MacOS-based PCs and laptops without any problems. The sequential read and write speeds for large files are standard for SATA 3 SSDs - 500 and 450 MB / s, respectively. The manufacturer does not indicate the processing speed of small 4K files. Small amount of SLC cache
Despite the presence of a buffer, its volume is only 32 MB, and about 6% of the total volume is allocated for the SLC mode, therefore, when writing a very large amount of data at a time, the virtual array overflows over time and the write speed drops several times to level 80 – 100 Mb/s. All things considered, this model will be an excellent choice for undemanding users who want to get the basic benefits of moving from an HDD to an SSD.
