Gaming affordable flagship
Of course, OnePlus is already better known in our latitudes and often does not require introduction, but it recently announced a merger with OPPO, so it should be considered as an independent, but still sub-brand. The OnePlus 9R is the little brother of the 2021 flagships OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro and offers flagship features with some trade-offs for the price. In fact, this is something between last year's OnePlus 8T and the base "nine". The manufacturer itself positions the device as a gaming device, although outwardly it does not look like representatives of this caste at all with a catchy design, backlight and a massive body. This is the twin brother of the older models of the family with a glass (but not very slippery) coating, a metal frame, a small round cutout in the display for the front camera and a main camera with a design similar to the OnePlus 9 Pro.
But the power lies within. Yes, the manufacturer saved on the processor and replaced the top Snapdragon 888 with the Snapdragon 870, but this is not a minus at all. The Snapdragon 870 is an evolution of the 2020 flagship Snapdragon 865 platform and is designed for relatively affordable high-end devices. It supports 5G work, perfectly draws even the most demanding games, provides stable performance when watching videos or surfing the web, but at the same time it costs less than Snapdragon 888 and consumes battery power much more economically. If you add here the liquid cooling system, fast UFS 3.1 memory and 8 GB of RAM, you get a good headroom for the next few years. In addition, gamers will appreciate the special Pro Gaming mode, which uses all resources and turns off distractions such as calls and notifications, a vibration feedback motor and two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Perhaps, the only thing missing is a slot for increasing the amount of internal memory and a 3.5 mm jack — you will have to use wireless headphones or an adapter.
Everything your heart desires
The rest of the smartphone offers everything you need for comfortable use. The screen does not lag behind the “hardware” and is at the same high level: it uses a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz for a smoother picture, especially in games, and support for HDR10+. The 4500 mAh battery is unlikely to last more than a day, especially with heavy use, but it does not take long to charge thanks to the 65W charger. As a result, it takes only 39 minutes to fully charge from 1% to 100%. There is a 16-megapixel camera for selfies. The main one combines four modules: a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor with optical stabilization, a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 123-degree field of view, a 5 MP macro camera and a 2 MP sensor for black and white shots. In general, the OnePlus 9R takes a little worse than the OnePlus 9, but the photos are of good quality. However, the camera was not developed in collaboration with the Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad, as is the case with older models.
In addition, the OnePlus 9R also has a fingerprint sensor built into the display, an NFC chip, a slot for two SIM cards, Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6. They didn’t skimp on the bundle: in the box you will find a quick charger and a case, and a protective film is immediately pasted on the screen. To sum up, this is a good flagship-level model, but with a lower price tag.
