When the disc is turned on, the noise is simply infernal, it feels like it's tearing apart from the inside. At low writing speeds, it makes noise, creaks, and sputters. But the most interesting part is that it passes the functionality test. I bought myself several Exos ST18000NM000J for NAS. Surprisingly very quiet hard drives. Compared to my former Toshiba MG06A - it's just night and day. I think my neighbors were also happy to replace the old drives.. One 120mm cooler is enough for cooling, with it the hard drives heat up to no more than 30-35 degrees. The hard drive starts up very smoothly, no clicks or vibrations, even when parked. And only during high load, if you get close to the server, you can hear the heads moving. When copying/reading, it produces stable 270-290 MBs, sometimes it accelerates to 370 MBs. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good CMR drive.
