Xiaomi Mi WiFi Router 4A Gigabit Edition
![]() |
One of the most affordable models of high-performance wireless routers (routers) with a full-speed dual-band Wi-Fi module and gigabit-class cable network ports. It is distinguished by its affordable cost and high data transfer speed over the air and LAN lines. Positioned as an affordable mid-price product aimed at home users who do not require a significant amount of cable connections.
In addition, the Xiaomi Mi WiFi Router 4A Gigabit Edition will cope with the needs of a small office. The router is based on a 2-core MediaTek MT7621 MIPS processor operating at a frequency of up to 880 MHz. It supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless communications in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with 2x2 MIMO mode (in both bands). In this case, the maximum connection speed is 300 and 876 Mbit/s, respectively. These values are quite enough for watching streaming UltraHD video, comfortable online gaming, uninterrupted operation of cloud services, IP television and other tasks. Four non-removable external antennas provide impressive wireless coverage. A Gigabit Ethernet WAN port is provided to connect to the provider's network.

I've had it for about 7-8 months. As soon as I bought it, I immediately flashed it to Padavan because I didn't like the stock firmware, neither in terms of appearance nor functionality. I have two routers, with this one being the main, and the other as a repeater - sometimes the static IP gets reset on the repeater, causing the internet to disappear there (but this is most likely the repeater router's firmware fault; if I get around to re-flashing it, I'll clarify this issue). The speed via cable is perfect. On 5GHz - if you are in the same room, everything is fine at 70-80 Mbps (almost the perfect 100 from the provider), but in a room through a thick wall, it drops to 25-30. As for 2.4GHz, whether it's right next to it or through a thick wall, it's around 20-25, but through 2 walls and one thick one, it drops to 5-10 and sometimes disappears. It doesn't affect the ping. Easily flashed and a wide variety of firmwares. The 2.4 signal strength is sufficient and stronger than routers that aren't much cheaper. 5GHz - there's nothing to compare with, but I understand what to expect from them and they satisfy me. No "supposedly," but it would be nice to have wall mounts from the factory to increase positioning options in the apartment. ![]() |
Great router for its price, dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) is the best solution if one phone supports 5GHz and the other does not, it works like two networks, but simultaneously. Ease of setup, user-friendly router interface, minimalist router design, localization Minor heating of the casing, but it does not affect performance in any way. ![]() |
The power of the antennas didn't impress me. The old D-Link with one antenna and the Comfast repeater seem stronger at first glance. I haven't tested it extensively yet, but it seems to catch the signal in my apartment at the level of my old D-Link. Well, it's not like the specifications said it was particularly powerful. But it does have Wi-Fi 5 (AC) and 5 GHz. It's too automated for my taste, but it connected to the internet right away. The feature to intercept connection settings also came in handy. Although the password was there, for some reason it wouldn't connect when entered manually. I don't consider having only 2 LAN ports a disadvantage. Nowadays, we're moving away from wires. In the worst case, there is equipment available to address this. Modern technologies, for not too much money. An attempt to make the connection intuitive even for someone who is not very knowledgeable, with detailed instructions in the interface and in the manual. It seems to have been successful. Weak antennas, but similar to the stated power. ![]() |
Gigabit router for undemanding users
No matter what anyone says, we owe a lot to Xiaomi for the appearance of inexpensive smartphones with good features and good build quality. Also, the Xiaomi brand is famous for cheap portable batteries and Wi-Fi equipment. So, presented in the summer of 2019, Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 4A Gigabit Edition seems to be the perfect router for undemanding lucky ones with a gigabit provider.
Formula for success
Xiaomi's formula for success is: "price + dual-band operation + gigabit connection + ease of setup." To start connecting Mi Wi-Fi Router 4A Gigabit Edition, the user needs to read the QR code out of the box, install the proprietary application, turn on the router and select the desired setting option from the guide. That's the whole story. The only problem is that, like all other models of the company, the interface does not have Russian-language localization, only Chinese. In this case, the “translate page” function of the browser helps out a lot, the translation from Google turns out to be surprisingly correct.
Bandwidth 1167 Mbps
Now about network opportunities. The device creates two wireless networks at frequencies of 2.4 and 5 GHz, which provide connection speeds up to 300 and 867 Mbps, respectively. For each frequency range, two antennas with a length of about 17 cm are provided. Thanks to them, the signal effectively penetrates the walls and reaches all corners of the apartment. There are only two LAN ports, but given the price, this can hardly be considered a problem. We have no complaints about the quality of communication, this is just the case when you turned it on, set it up and forgot where it is.
