A multi-threaded octa-core processor based on a 7nm process technology introduces the Ryzen 7 series (codenamed Matisse Zen 2), in which AMD combines a high-end CPU. The model is the successor to the Ryzen 7 Pinnacle Ridge 2700X engine released in 2018 and is positioned as the main competitor to the Core i7 9700K from Intel. The AMD 3800X BOX processor differs from its sister model 3700X by the clock frequency increased to 3.9 GHz (versus 3.6 GHz) and increased heat dissipation (105 W against 65 W).

When the load increases, the CPU automatically increases the frequency to 4.5 GHz, and thanks to the unlocked multiplier, the user can overclock on their own. The high performance of the model is also facilitated by a solid supply of cache memory (32 MB of the third level and 4 MB of the second). The "engine" is able to work correctly with DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. Integrated graphics core is not provided, but the cooler is included in the package.

Cheaper analogue for work tasks than 9900K
7 June 2021
You don’t have to drive it because there will be no difference in games, especially since almost all cores there are boosted to 4.4, but when rendering or work tasks there is still a difference. Works stably at 4250MHz 1.35v
-Performance The difference is enormous compared to my previous I-3 4030u.
- Hot Under the water cooler Celsius+ S36 Dynamic and overclocked to 4250MHz 1.35v, it ran stably; in OCCT during the stress test, it was around 75 degrees. However, during the same stress test in Aida 64, the temperature soared to 95 degrees. (The water cooler was at maximum speed, the computer in performance mode, made a sandwich with 6 fans, the situation changed by only 3 degrees).

Not worth the money and the specs are rubbish
31 August 2020
I got myself a 3700X box for my setup:
- Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI)
- Crucial Ballistix DDR4 2x16Gb BL2K16G32C16U4B
- Kingston A2000 M.2 SA2000M8/500G
I bought all this to replace my old 3570K with overclocking and 16GB (4x4).

For some reason, on my new Asus motherboard, the voltage was set to the max for the processor, over 1.4V. I'm puzzled why the factory does this because, with such a setup, the CPU and chipset on the motherboard would heat up to 50-60°C just with Chrome and Photoshop running under a load not exceeding 20-30%. After adjusting it manually to 1.25V, it immediately dropped by 10°C without any loss of performance.

Overall, compared to the old one, it works faster, but I never felt it was twice as fast, and now I'm wondering why I bothered with the 3700X. I could have just as easily gone for the 3600X or Intel 10500. Since I occasionally do video rendering with my GTX1070 Founders, both the new and old CPUs render 1 hour of video in Premiere in about 10 minutes, with the CPU load at 50-60%. So, can someone tell me what those 8 cores and 16 threads are actually doing when the time is almost the same on the old 4-core processor?

Okay, let's remove the GPU from rendering, and what do I see? 100% CPU load and 1 hour to render = 1 hour, which is exactly what I got with the old CPU... This is a fiasco for AMD. Basically, the point of buying this CPU is nearly zero because the performance gain is maybe 15-20%, at most 30% with DDR4 memory over 7 years...
- We'll assume it's 7nm, I hope they're really there
- 8 cores, still more than 4 in my old CPU and make it a bit faster
- It's cheaper than Intel, but that doesn't mean much in fact
- A decent cooler included, if you don't have a good one, this will do for a while
- AMD sticker =)
- 16 threads of nonsense and everyday realities to the back seat
- 65W TDP nonsense because on b550 motherboards it heats up like a demon (hello AMD heaters, and I thought this wasn't an issue with the new ones) at 1.4V. And this is considering I have it under Noctua NH-D14 and two 140mm Fractal Design intake fans in the case. Even lowering the voltage, I think it should run cooler.
- It's not worth buying it, better to get a cheaper option and with the saved money, get a decent graphics card (RTX 2060 Super or higher) and a fast SSD, you'll get more real benefit.
- Lack of integrated video, some might say it's unnecessary but in critical moments, this thing is a lifesaver.
- Watched loads of video reviews and comparisons, thought I was getting a plane but ended up with a meh processor.. Someone might say it's an excellent chip but I disagree because in my practical usage scenarios, it doesn't prove to be. It's just a hyped and overrated Ryzen.

When choosing between Intel i9 9900k and Ryzen 7 3700x, think again)
24 June 2020
Since 2004, I have owned computers based on "red" processors - Athlon, Phenom, and I have never regretted it, as I always got decent performance for a reasonable price. Needless to say, when I got the Ryzen 7 3700x, I was as happy as a clam, and with the money I saved (compared to a similar chip from Intel), I upgraded the RAM for the new processor. So, AMD gets my respect!
Speed/power + reasonable price

Natural selection

The Ryzen 7 3800X is a selective and therefore higher clocked version of AMD's other octa-core, 16-thread processor, the Ryzen 7 3700X. It is built on the most successful chiplets (clusters of cores in the form of a separate chip under the thermal cover of the processor), capable of stable base operation at a frequency of 3.9 GHz when using a simple bundled cooler, or in auto-overclocking mode for all cores up to 4.2 GHz in the case of a more efficient cooler.

hot temper

On the same core, the 3800X is able to boost up to a frequency of 4.5 GHz unattainable for previous generations of Ryzen. But this requires a large tower air cooler or, even better, a liquid cooling system. It's not for nothing that AMD announced a TDP of as much as 105 W for the 3800X, while the younger 3700X emits less than 65 W under load. As you can see, an additional few hundred megahertz are given at the cost of a significant increase in the supply voltage and, as a result, heating.

Equilibrium point

Theoretically, the 3800X, like other AMD Ryzen 3000-series processors, is capable of running memory at 3733 MHz or even higher. But in fact, the optimal value is 3600 MHz, because in this case the RAM frequency will coincide with the frequency of the Infinity Fabric processor bus. In the case of asynchronous operation of the memory controller and Infinity Fabric, latency (delays) will increase significantly.

For work and leisure

Thanks to its simultaneous high frequency and multi-core (the younger 3600X and 3700X can only boast either the first or the second), the Ryzen 7 3800X is equally well suited for building both a professional work PC and an entertainment gaming PC. When assembling a working PC, keep in mind that the 3800X does not have an integrated graphics core, so you will definitely need at least a simple discrete graphics card. Well, it’s hard to even imagine a modern gaming PC without a powerful discrete.
