The debutant of 2019 in the BOX configuration (with a cooler) refers to the Ryzen 5 Matisse Zen 2 line, which combines AMD solutions created on the 7nm process technology. "Engine" is positioned as a mid-level solution. Each of the cores supports multithreading due to SMT technology, which makes it possible to simultaneously execute up to 12 instruction threads on a 6-core CPU.
The AMD 3600 BOX is clocked at 3.6 GHz with the ability to auto-boost to 4.2 GHz when workloads increase and secure user overclocking. The latter provides an unlocked multiplier. The base heat dissipation figures are at a modest level (up to 65 W), which does not place high demands on the cooling system. Good features for subsequent upgrades are provided by both the current AM4 socket and compatibility with DDR4 RAM with a maximum frequency of up to 3200 MHz.

Still delivers decent performance for its age =) Although, I happened to get a not-so-successful chip that maxes out at 4.1 on all cores with a voltage of 1.37. This is a bronze case. The Fab Five
The Ryzen 5 3600 is currently the youngest member of the AMD Matisse 7nm processor family (while the even more economical 3200G and 3400G hybrid processors belong to the 12nm Raven Ridge family). The 3600 has six physical cores of the Zen 2 architecture and twelve virtual SMT threads, as well as a little, no small amount, 32 MB of L3 cache.
Multithreading and single threading
The frequency formula of the Ryzen 5 3600 is 3.6 – 4.1 GHz. The first number means the base, that is, the guaranteed frequency for all cores, and the second — the maximum frequency of auto-overclocking when only one core is loaded. Most of the time, the frequency is kept somewhere in the middle — 3.8 – 3.9 GHz. A simple cooler is supplied with the boxed version of the processor, but it is not enough to even boost the processor to the maximum, not to mention manual overclocking.
Can be overclocked
The unlocked multiplier allows you to raise the frequency of the Ryzen 5 3600 to the level of $ 50 more expensive 3600X or even slightly higher (up to 4.2 – 4.3 GHz on all cores). But only if you have a motherboard with good power stabilization (Load-Line Calibration), and these are usually mid-price and flagship models based on the X570 chipset.
Progress on the face
Definitely, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 was a success. The increased number of instructions processed per cycle compared to Zen +, as well as an increase in the frequency of several hundred megahertz, led to the fact that the newcomer is faster than its predecessor 2600 by about a quarter. Well, in the future, if desired, it will be possible to upgrade to a twice as powerful Ryzen 9 3900X with twelve cores and twenty-four threads.

Let's start with the fact that this is a dinosaur on the old architecture, which previously, now, and in the future will bend under srintols and 5500.
5500 is much better, especially with some jzr Hynixes, or E Die Microns, you can easily boost the memory to 4200 cl16, and happily bend this Zen2, which, by the way, can become problematic over time, for example, the dual-channel might stop working, or it doesn't recognize the SSD, or USBs don't work. In short - the CPU is trash, given the existence of the 5500, which overclocks memory no worse than "srintols". And the fact that it has PCIe 3, does not make it worse, especially with x16 lanes on cards, and on 8x cards, it only shows if you have very little VRAM and you're playing in 2k.
