Accumulation of scale on the heating element and the presence of sediment in the tank can lead to the failure of the water heater and serve as grounds for denying warranty service. The amount of sediment and scale on the heating element is not specified, only at the discretion of the technician. For example, a Termex stood for 5 years without maintenance and continued to serve at the cottage. In another apartment, there's a BOSCH that's been running for about 5 years as well, works like a charm, but Bosch and Termex have a price tag that's half as much.
