An affordable version of the third-generation Googlephone, simplified on key fronts for the sake of a more humane cost. So, the smartphone is running a Snapdragon 670 chipset (against the 845th “dragon” of the base “troika”), which is accompanied by 4/64 GB of memory and integrated Adreno 615 graphics. The device’s screen uses an OLED panel with dimensions of 5.6- inches diagonally and a resolution of 2220x1080 pixels.
“Hairstyles” in the form of a falling “bangs”, fortunately, he does not have. Google Pixel 3a borrowed a “one-eyed” camera from its older brother, which shoots better than the lion’s share of multi-camera designs thanks to advanced Google software. In particular, all generations of "Pixels" are excellent at night shooting. The back panel of the smartphone is made of plastic with a branded glossy insert.
“Under the knife” in the device they launched wireless charging and water protection of the case, however, they added a 3.5 mm audio jack and left fast charging of a battery with a capacity of exactly 3000 mAh using Quick Charge 3.0 technology. In the software part, the affairs of the smartphone are managed by the stock Android 9.0 Pie OS, followed by an upgrade to the “tens”.

The battery in my use lasts 2 days + 1 night. An average of 5 hours of screen operation on auto light. Always on wifi .. for me this is the norm. The camera is good here without words. And the shell, pure Android is the best that can be.. A good inexpensive phone. It works well, everything is at a high level. Good screen, good battery, cool camera, compact body.. If you buy a new one in an online store for $400, I think it's not worth it, because there are many more interesting phones. But it's good that there are plenty of new ones for $200. That's how I bought it.. use Google Pixel 3a week i recommend it should buy |
Despite the flaws, definitely a 5. If you're not chasing after meaningless numbers, flashy gradients, and fifty cameras with 100500 MP (which are often not that useful), then this device is for you. You will definitely stand out. Almost no one knows about this device. I lost it once, and quickly found it because it's extremely rare. If it were Samsung, Honor, or Xiaomi, it would have been lost for good. After using it for 5 months, I'm writing a review. I previously had a Nexus 5X, so I will compare it with that. 1. Screen. I love Oled, better a pure black and greenish white than a perfect white and not-black. + energy saving. 2. Pure Android. No interface gives me as much pleasure as 10 pure Android. 3. Speed and optimization. It's not an 855 dragon, but it works very quickly and smoothly. I personally compared it to an iPhone XS, and in most cases, the app opening speed is comparable. Compared to the Xiaomi Mi A3 (also on pure Android), it's like night and day. The interface on the A3 is jerky. 4. Camera. Google's algorithms work wonders; I wouldn't say there's a huge leap in quality after the Nexus 5X, but the difference is noticeable. Video at 60 fps records well too, not iPhone level, but quite decent. Night shooting is madness; the human eye sometimes sees worse! AI zoom is cool, it enhances the image to make it decent, without it, it would be a blurry mess. The best camera for this money, it can compete with current flagships. 5. Stereo speakers. I didn't expect to like them, but the sound is respectable. After the Nexus 5X, it's amazing! 6. Design. Don't throw things at me. I like it. A plastic smartphone is lighter; for me, lighter is better, even if it's plastic. I don't understand the complaints about plastic, 95% use a case, so what difference does it make what's under the case? It's drastically different from all those Chinese phones with gradient glass and 2-3-4 cameras. The color is purple-ish, looks very nice in person. The somewhat large bezels don't bother me, it's better than an ugly notch. 7. Compactness. Feels great in hand. After the 5.2-inch Nexus 5X, there's no discomfort. The Pixel is slightly longer due to the 18:9 ratio. 8. Battery. Compared to the Nexus 5X, it lasts twice as long. I'm not exaggerating. You can get up to 5 hours of screen activity on mobile internet, and 6-6.5 on Wi-Fi calmly. Lasts me about 1.5 days. 9. Vibration. Similar to Apple's taptic engine. Feels great tactually. 10. Jack. I spent a month with a smartphone without a jack and, as it turns out, it's better with one (CAPT). ![]() |
The phone is not budget-friendly, and the price is on the level of Chinese flagships. I bought it largely for the camera and the stock Android, plus I don't want a big phone. The camera here is really decent. This is especially noticeable in night shots. It doesn't blur, has good sharpness, pleasant natural colors, normal white balance, and there is stabilization. I don't see the point in writing about stock Android, it's simply the opportunity to always receive Android updates first. The body is plastic. Which kind of hints at the question - a plastic body for 500 bucks? Many people have tried to convince me that plastic is better than metal. But I believe that for such money, it should be metal or glass. The display is exactly the size I wanted. It's quite large, yet not as huge as phablets. No application or game has been able to load it to the fullest. I think it's a matter of optimization since the processor itself is mid-range. The battery lasts me 1.5-2 days. That pleases me because I'm not a fan of constant charging. Still, it's worth noting that such phones are bought by economical people, as personally, I do not plan to change it for the next 2-3 years. What can new smartphones offer me that this Pixel doesn't have? Camera. Pure android. Compactness. Long-lived battery. During the use did not catch a single glitch. productive percent. Plastic. For me it's trash for the money. |
Pixel is back?
The Pixel line has gone from “this is what a cool Android smartphone should look like” to “Who even buys this buggy thing”? And when it seemed that the shop could be closed. Google unexpectedly released a very interesting simplified version of the Pixel 3a, in which many saw the reincarnation of the legendary Google Nexus. If other manufacturers cut everything they can, leaving only a name familiar to buyers, Google went from the opposite and retained the main advantage of the "older" Pixel — a progressive and smart camera that produces almost the best mobile portraits in this class, as well as damn cool shoots at night.
When one is a warrior in the field
It is not for nothing that this is one of the few “light flagships” that has been tested by specialists from DxOMark and received an impressive 100 points there. HDR + technology is, in fact, what the Google Pixel camera is loved for. Multi-frame exposure, combined with smart fusion algorithms, allows you to not only expand the dynamic range, but add saturation, detail and character to the picture. Sometimes a smartphone tries too hard (especially with white balance), but the picture is still impressive.
"Pure" Android
Other Pixel chips remained in business: a high-quality and neatly tuned OLED display, “pure” Android with lightning-fast updates, a body that does not slip in your hands, and an unusual compactness in the current realities. However the dimensions turned out to be a double-edged sword: the smartphone is smaller than its counterparts in 2020 and it is quite possible to control it with one hand, but the frames at the top and bottom are very large, which is why the display here is only 5.6". Although the norm for the most common smartphone has long been displays with a diagonal of 6.2 – 6.3".
Memory limited
The only pity is that all the shortcomings of the original Pixel 3 were transferred to the Pixel 3a. Firstly, this is not the most performant hardware. Snapdragon 670 + 4 GB is the level of the simplest handset from China for $200. Secondly, no support for memory cards. Considering that storage is limited to 64 GB, and Google has not released larger versions, this could stop many potential buyers. Well, the 3000 mAh battery looks outdated. Although, the existing OLED display is energy efficient, plus there is fast charging, so you can live. In general, if you are looking for a compact camera phone for adequate money, but do not chase high performance and battery life, then the Google Pixel 3a will suddenly become an excellent choice.
