Asus RT-AX58U
![]() |
One of the high-end models of high-speed wireless dual-band gaming routers (routers) by Asus from the year 2020. It belongs to the AX3000 class models, fully compliant with the Wi-Fi 6 standard. It is positioned as a premium-class product, designed for creating ultra high-speed wireless networks with low latency. It is also capable of supporting a high-performance wired network infrastructure.
Equipped with one WAN and four LAN Gigabit Ethernet ports with USB 3.2 Gen 1 slots for connecting 3G/4G(LTE) modems, HDD/Flash drives, and printers. Thanks to the powerful Broadcom BCM6750 3-core processor and two four-channel dual-band radio modules, the Asus RT-AX58U router provides a theoretical bandwidth of up to 576 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz range and up to 2402 Mbps when using the 5 GHz carrier frequency.
Achieving these speeds in practice is only possible when using client devices that support MU-MIMO 2x2, wide channels (180 MHz), and 1024-QAM modulation. Large antennas and a successful implementation of Beamforming technology allow for an increased area of high-quality Wi-Fi coverage. The router supports Firewall, NAT, DHCP-, FTP-, file- and print-server functions. It is equipped with a powerful built-in cyber protection suite AiProtection (blocking malicious sites, preventing intrusions, isolating infected devices within the local network).

The router is very powerful! The comment above is only about the negative aspects, but most likely the router was configured incorrectly (I've seen more than one such router, and there were cases of ASUS being a counterfeit from an underground factory in China). Therefore, I recommend everyone to perform an Automatic firmware update during the router setup by downloading and updating directly from the ASUS website (it takes 5 minutes, and if the automatic update doesn't work, download the update file to a flash drive and connect the flash drive to the router to perform the update manually). A router manufactured for China or the USA - it's better to immediately change the firmware to the one available on the official website (you can check the router by serial number on the manufacturer's website). After the firmware update, which was released just recently in 2024, I initially configured two separate networks on 2.4 G and 5 G, but there is a common Dual network, and after tests, it turned out to be the best for me. Here are my conclusions: The signal is strong and covers an entire floor of a 9-story apartment building (I live on the 8th floor, and it fully covered the 9th and 7th floors as well (though I placed the router near the apartment's entrance door). There are many types of settings, and everything is done quickly. For reliability, I checked the serial number on the official website and installed the new firmware from the manufacturer's website. The power supply was not satisfactory (in some power strips and outlets of questionable production, it wobbles when connected if you touch it slightly or move the power strip). I had to connect it through a triple adapter. (I was saved by the fact that I bought it much cheaper than the store price because it was brought in as manufactured for the EU and imported into Ukraine, probably as contraband.) ![]() |
I've been using it for over a year; turned it on, connected the devices, and forgot about it. It distributes gigabit internet to all 8 permanently connected devices. The signal perfectly covers the house and reasonably reaches the garage through three walls. Powerful, reliable, looks great, tons of settings, convenient mobile app. Well, if it could bring coffee in the morning - that would be even better. |
When I bought a PS5, I needed to upgrade my router to one with Wifi 6. I got it on Black Friday sale. In my opinion, this device handles its tasks more than adequately. After a couple of months of use, it hasn't frozen once and runs like clockwork. Compared to my old MikroTik, I think the hardware of this router will be sufficient for the next couple of years. I've never seen the resources fully loaded, even though it's consistently connected to a PC (wired), PS5, a TV set-top box, 2 mobile phones, and a tablet. Not everything is used at the same time, of course, but nonetheless, I haven't noticed any internet issues at all. There is traffic prioritization, but I haven't had to use it yet, as none of the devices have needed it. I've downloaded torrents and streamed to the TV set-top box without any hiccups. It's certainly not a gaming router, but unless you are a super pro gamer, I don't see the point in overpaying for something like that. This model easily meets my needs. - Matte body, simply stunning, just the way I like it. - 4 antennas, cover the entire apartment perfectly, I personally have no signal drops anywhere. - The packaging of both the router and everything else is top-notch, the box is about twice the size of the router, everything neatly arranged in a cardboard form. That's a big PLUS! - Quite simple initial setup (though it could be even simpler), the interface, I suppose, is familiar to anyone who's ever encountered Asus somewhere. - 3 years warranty. - The router has a ton of software features, including 3 types of VPN (PPTP, OpenVPN, IPSec VPN), a traffic analyzer, built-in firewall, parental controls, network protection, and lots more that I probably won't ever use, but having them is surely useful for someone. - Nice app for checking the router status from the phone, and you can manage small things like updating the firmware or creating a guest network. - Separate power button at the back of the router, so you don't need to unplug it like with many models if you need to turn it off or something. - A glossy PSU, that's just nuts, everything is matte and then there's one glossy PSU, couldn't Asus get it right somewhere? - I haven't had the chance to try out the perks of gigabit internet yet, but hopefully, I will in the future. - Sometimes it feels like the 5 GHz band turns on a bit slowly after starting up the router. Maybe it will be fixed with a new firmware or hopefully, it will sort itself out. ![]() |
Wi-Fi 6 performance
The Asus RT-AX58U is one of the first routers to support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), which has remained relevant and affordable since its introduction in 2020 thanks to its excellent speed characteristics. The router supports a bandwidth of 160 MHz, which significantly increases the speed of the wireless connection, reaching 574 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps at 5 GHz.
Abundance of wired interfaces
Asus RT-AX58U offers high bandwidth not only over a wireless network, but also with a wired connection. The router is equipped with four gigabit LAN ports and USB 3.2 gen1, supporting 3G and 4G (LTE) modems. This allows you to use the device to distribute mobile Internet in the absence of a wired connection, if a USB modem is connected.
Large coverage area
The router has a powerful transmitter (27.4 dBm) and four external antennas that provide wider coverage. The manufacturer claims an 80% increase in coverage compared to Wi-Fi 5 routers. To improve the stability of the connection, the Beamforming function is used, which directs the signal directly to client devices. AiMesh technology is also supported, thanks to which the Asus RT-AX58U can be used as the main router or as a Mesh network node.
Additional features include the AiProtection multi-level security system, ease of setup, and support for advanced features such as creating a firewall with traffic filtering and implementing file, media, and print servers.
Asus RT-AX58U is a reliable and powerful Wi-Fi 6 router with 4G modem support, suitable for users who need high speed and stable connection.
