I bought the SAL-1680Z and now I regret the money spent. I've been using it with my a700 for three years now. The saddest part is that over time the internal lens of the camera has been covered with mold. And as it turns out, this is quite a common problem for some reason specifically with this lens. Google "Batch of CZ 16-80 showing fungus issue", and you'll find a lot of interesting pictures. I was no exception and became the proud owner of a pleasant "Zeiss moldy snowball" for a thousand dollars. Naturally, neither in Kyiv nor in Ukraine does anyone take on disassembling and cleaning such a lens (the corresponding equipment is not even available in official Sony service centers). It seems that Sony had to urgently produce the "best cropped standard lens for the system" in a hurry, sticking the cherished blue "Zeiss" label on it (selling it at twice the price). By the way, the build quality of this lens also leaves much to be desired: over time, the extending tube begins to wobble significantly. It feels like it is absolutely unsecured inside the lens body. Sony has good lenses, but unfortunately, this one turned out to be unsuccessful. good micro-contrast, sharpness and color rendition price, poor design, mold problem  Victor: just bought Sony 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 ZA A Vario-Sonnar T* i recommend it don't buy |
Everything's great, just don't switch from autofocus to manual too often (some gears wear out with frequent switching back and forth). Generally, if you need repairs in Ukraine - only take it to Kyiv and only to ERC - I submitted it in Dnipro at Tekhnopoint - they not only didn't fix it but also broke it further. It produces stunning images. Photo Quality sometimes the variable aperture ratio and poor design are annoying - you need to know the nuances.
