Initially, I was planning to buy a budget circular saw. However, after talking to some friends who owned such machines and reading what people were saying about them on professional forums, I realized that a cheapskate pays twice, and a fool pays thrice. I managed to save up for a Bosch in a couple of months and parted with a substantial amount of money. The reluctance was strong, but it's Bosch, and it doesn't come cheap. The first thing that catches the eye is the sturdy steel frame. Yes, it's the frame that mainly contributes to its weight of 23 kg. The rigidity is absolute, yet it folds compactly. When folded and placed on its side, it measures about 40 cm in width. Since I sometimes have to transport it, this option is just perfect. The motor is powerful, with a very smooth start, and cuts easily and quickly. The cutting depth is good, up to 79 mm, which is excellent for a disc of this size. There's a slot for a dust extractor. For now, I'm using a bag, but I might purchase an affordable industrial vacuum cleaner later on. The miter gauge is wobbly, which was disappointing and frustrating. I temporarily solved the problem by attaching thick metal foil to the guide. However, this is just a temporary fix, and I'll have to find a permanent solution. The motor is standard, brushed, and it generates a lot of noise when operating. The original 24-tooth blade is only suitable for rough cuts. It cannot be used for precise cuts, especially on laminates. For precise woodworking, I bought the 60-tooth Freud LP40M 025. It's an excellent saw blade, highly recommended. |
Circular for precision work
The Bosch GTS 10 J circular is professional equipment. It cuts evenly and cleanly (especially if you use high-quality branded wood circles). Unlike household-grade saws, this model is designed for continuous operation and does not overheat during intensive use.
The nominal power of the machine (1800 W) does not look impressive, but it is worth remembering that every watt of a Bosch tool is “honest”, so in fact this saw with a German engine will be more performant than the “Chinese” with 2.5 kW engines.
Customizability and mobility
In the design of the sawing machine, almost everything is regulated. The disc tilts 47° to one side and 2° to the other. Rigid steel frame provides stability and stability during operation. There is a parallel stop designed for precise cuts (it is solid, durable and self-adjusting). The disc starts smoothly thanks to the inrush current limiter. If you connect a vacuum cleaner to the sawing machine, then dust and sawdust will not close the cut line and scatter around the workshop.
Compact dimensions (when folded, the saw easily fits into the boot of a car) and moderate weight (26 kg) make it possible to use this circular saw for field work. To make working on the road more convenient, it is worth buying an additional Bosch folding workbench, with which the machine goes well.
The right choice for the professional
The “element” of the Bosch GTS 10 J circular is finishing work. Thanks to a well-thought-out design and high quality components, it provides a very precise cut. Therefore, this model is often chosen in order to build a full-fledged workbench around it for a woodworking workshop with a carpentry profile. Bosch stationary saws are no less popular with builders who appreciate this brand of equipment for reliability and performance. However the prices for professional models bite a little, so amateur craftsmen should choose among the cheaper Bosch "green" series saws.
